Wow! [X(] You are right! It looks, at a first glance, like the data from Pointe du Hoc's LOS file got put into St. Pierre du Mont's LOS file. How it got there is a good question, and how it has gone so long without being noticed is another!

Good find, kojusoki1! Bad QA, ST3.

Fix it and flog the coder, please.

Yep...wrong map txt file (from Pointe du Hoc) Image
A mistake introduced in the beta patches.
Somebody discovered this one over at the Matrix forum months ago IIRC.

I think the interim fix was import the txt file from the original release tLD

I think the error occurred because of the rather cryptic naming of the map files in tLD  pt du hoc can be confused with Pierre Du Mont or a whole bunch of other maps.

Actually...this was discovered back in May.
Introduced in the first beta patch (DR55001b)...and wasn't fixed in the second beta patch (DR55003b).

Hello Drill,

It was pointed out about time I started the first GC with Bob , thats been a few months ago. Matter of fact it was because of your insite about always making saves and such I got a chuckle when it was first reported because Bob and I had just updated to the .01B patch that caused the problem. I then had to go back and make up a new folder without the patch to get the old map file and replace what the patch had messed up (not a big deal at all, just 1 file).

You are so ahead of your time out here Drill it amazes me, even when you don't know it. [&o]

Again many thanks to you and all the rest out here for the helpfull knowledge and tips you throw our way from time too time.

Hi,

I guess for a single battle it might be of importance to have the correct data. [X(]

The fact is in a GC format, I wonder how offen that maps sees action (having a vision of a hooker at a ....). My guess is thats probably why no one has mentioned it in the past months since it was first discovered. Then add in the fact that the earlier post was missed too about this problem, man what an all around snafu!

Shame, shame, shame (G Pyle) on you Matrix for not fixing this problem that 99.99999(plus infinity of 9's)% of all players would never notice or bother to notice or even care to notice or .... [>:]

I sure hope this time it gets ..... well...NOTICED!...just incase someone actually does have combat on that map in the next century! I think from this "point" on it will always be remember to me as the Rodney Dangerfield map, jess 5 months and counting... [;)]

Leaves 3 possibilities.

1. No one has bought the game
2. No one has installed the Beta patch
3. Game has been purchased and patched and the fix has been implemented by the users.
4. no body notices

ok that's four and there may be more

Would number 4 count as a 4th if no body notices?

You've put a gleam in Jim's eye
[&:] Nope would never say that about the coder. The initial error was my fault. When fixing some coding errors that carried over from the BO version of the PDH map I'd done some changes to PDH and saved over top of St. Pierre du Mont by accident. As you pointed out Andrew the naming of both the PDH maps were poorly named on my part. At the point I did the naming we'd not yet settled upon St. Pierre du Mont and changing the file names wasn't considered. This error got released with the first incorrect release of the "beta" patch.

I've since fixed the text file error after the initial beta patch (that was NOT supposed to be uploaded as we weren't yet done - obviously) and replaced with the stock PDHinland text file. If you guys have installed subsequent patches and are still seeing the error it's either an installation error on your part, a version control problem with making the installers or I sent Erik the wrong file... again.

Ultimately no floggings deserved by anyone. Honest mistakes made by all. Unfortunately this ones dragged on longer than it should have. Sorry Drill. Will have to reserve your angst for another day. [:D]

Ok just double-checked my build (the one I zip and upload for getting turned into installers) and the text file is displaying the proper elements. The fix I'd made several generations ago is still there. So the problem is occuring between the installers being created and user installation.

I'd double-check that anyone seeing this problem has the correct beta patch installed. As I've posted several times there are two versions. The second one (link below) is the only one anyone should be installing. Of course it won't hurt if the unofficial beta patch gets installed as long as the subsequent official beta patch gets installed but the best way to avoid problems is to avoid the incorrect one altogether. I'm kinda surprised the original post by Greg Wilcox has not been removed by someone with admin powers in the forums. Unfortunately I don't.

I was referring to you Jim, as the recipient of the flogging  [:D]

EDIT: Warning, this thread contains light hearted banter.

Hmm...I think you're onto something here, Jim!
Looks like the cause might be Matrix's patch installer. I've noticed that the patch installer only copies newer files to the game folder, so if the game folder happens to contain "files with more recent dates"...they won't be overwritten by the patch files. So if people have installed the first beta patch (5.50.01b)...then installing the second beta patch (5.50.03b) won't insure all the files are copied over. Most game patches are cumulative, but I guess with Matrix's installer...you need to uninstall previous patches before installing the latest patch [&:]

NO, that is not the problem, though may be correct to a point.

I just installed the patch to an empty Folder

It contains the incorrect text file

It's an easy check

this is the file in the patch DR55003b when "installed" to an empty folder

OK...confirmed.
Nice tip about installing the patch to an empty folder to check out the file contents! Thanks!

The year is 2031.

Andrew slowy sits down in his chair, using one hand on the armrest to steady himself as he makes the final descent into the oversized seat hes grown so fond of over the decades. In front of him sit a 70in Chinso monitor, which seemed large at the time when he bought it 10yrs ago on sale at a local flee market, but today seems rather adequate with his eyesite starting to fail. As he enters the TLD forum for probably the 1 millionth time in his life, he notices a new post by a first timer.

Its been almost 3 years he thinks back since anyone posted at the site, so as he clicks on it he feels a sense of excitement run thru his body he has not felt for years. However as he begins to read the post a familar smerk appears on his face. Ah, he says to himself, its the old St. Pierre du Mont map txt file snafu. It must be 22 yrs since anyone noticed that error he thinks to himself. Unable to come up with anything new to add to a thread that exceeded 255 entrys back in the day, he slowly moves the mouse over the "x" and closes the screen.

After nearly two years, the wrongful flogging case of Byteminder vs Matrix is finally settled out of court. The following year, flogging coders is banned in 25 countries, to the dismay of one.

Glad to see you have a sense of humor Andrew...[;)]
