Withdrawal

Two questions.

Why are the withdrawal buttons not available for some air units?

I looked in the manual but couldn't find anything about how to withdraw land units. Is it automatic?

Thanks.

jshan, I can't answer the air question, I was wondering too, but land units are automatic, they just go, no need to move them.

Yup seen that too.  But the withdrawal button seems to work fine eventually.  Dunno the exact conditions to make it active.

Go back a day to my thread on disbanding air units. It seems the answer is that it's in the game because it happened that way in real life. It represents units in, say, Fresno, that get sent to England instead of the Pacific. You either disband, or you pay heavy PP penalties. But say goodby to the unit, it's not coming back.

You can review the specific squadron history to see why you must disband/withdraw them.

I generally understand that some air units need to be withdrawn on a schedule. I'm in Feb.1942 and a lot of West coast air units need to be withdrawn. Some have withdrawal buttons and some don't. Why? What do you do? I believe others have seen this.

Okay, got an issue with one of the mandatory withdrawal units: 17 BS of the 27th BG (one of the Banshees that are in Australia at the beginning). I've got him in Brisbane, which according to the hotkey ? is supposed to be a national whatever hex. I've withdrawn other squadrons from this hex. But the withdrawal and disband buttons are grayed out, and it is costing beau coups PPs while he sits there. City has 80,000 supply. One a/c in the unit is undergoing maintenance. What's up?

I THINK: If there is a detachment of the airgroup, you will not be able to withdraw/disband it. You must find and combine it.

No detachments either- at least none that were listed when I reviewed all squadrons in squadron number order. Issue went away the next turn for some reason. So no problems!

I'm curious as to why some LCUs have a disband option and some don't?

First, it depends on location. In national bases (don't know the list, but places like Sydney, Karachi) and in bases with supply over 100,000 you can disband them, this is in the manual somewhere. It is also impossible to disband units that are due to be withdrawn.

Units that have a disband or withdrawal date specified in the editor may not be manually withdrawn

Its an anti gamey thing.

e.g. You know you are going to to lose 7th Armoured Bde when it returns to Middle East - India front is quiet so I know lets send the unit to Delhi early - I can disband it there now 6 months before it mandatorily withdraws and all the devices are saved and added to my pool.

That5s why any unit with a specified disband date cannot be withdrawn
