Reading through the description of the game, it kind of reminds me of Sid Meier's Pirates. That was one of my all time favorites and this looks to be like a space version of that game. Am I right, or is it something completely different?

if you want to compare it to other games and want to describe the game in one sentence you could say: It´s a 2D turn-based mix of Pirates and Privateer/Elite.

Definitely see the Privateer in it and some HOMM all we need now is some voices for the combat sequence like : take that! haha you missed me! You dirty rat! I'm gonna blow you to smithereens! Run away Run away! (monty python), where are those reinforcements when you need them!, shea canna take enymor captin, I'm a doctor Jim not a surgeon! [:'(]

I've never played Privateer/Elite, but I can look that one up too.

You've never played the best ever in the entire galazy games of Privateer? Privateer 2 or Elite or Elite Plus??? You have missed so much my friend so much.
