Hi all,

Can game engine simulate this (i.e. German "pathfinders")?


Coventry was attacked on 14 November 1940 in operation "Mondscheinsonate" ("Moonlight Sonata"). The attack was started by KG100 "pathfinders" (which were using "X-Gerat") by marking the target. Then the rest of German bombers (500+) attacked the marked target (they had "Knickebein" as normal part of their cockpit equipement and when in general vicinity of target they saw the target markers set by KG100)...

BTW, I asked because I read at the WitP-AE "THE THREAD!!!" forum that Kristian ("Terminus") and Martin ("Dixie") started PBEM but they didn't know if that was possible (i.e. if you can make German raid in 1940 using KG100 as "pathfinders" to mark the target and then send regular bombers to saturate te marked area)...

yea, you could either use them to lead a raid, or have them fly by themselfs and mark it, with another raid to follow (fires will draw night bombers towards them)

Sorry to drag this from the past but as far as fires go, does a pathfinder have to make the first run on a target or can ordinary bombers start fires and draw others to the target? 

as long as it has bombs that cause fires, any can do (just the pathfinders have a better chance of being "on" target

thing with fires is, it will draw bombers away from there target to the fire

so say you have a city with a small port in it, you could plot some to the port and the rest to the city, but the fires in the port, could draw in more of the bombers headed to the city to the port (so for night raids, you want to try and keep the raids away from each other)

got it, thanks for the clarification for me.

The tendency for your raids to bomb other fires can be a bonus though.  I've just hit an undamaged part of Essen by using two aiming points, the bombers started by hitting their actual aiming points, but the second wave started to bomb closer and closer towards the fires started by the first wave.  In between the two points was an area that was only slightly damaged, now recce shows that it's in ruins [8D]
