Late Austust 42. Ike has decided to take a different approach to Townsville via Cooktown then Cairns. 2 divisions of the 17th army are ashore plus reinforeceing elements. Even I had not noted Cairns starts w/ 300 mines.

Note allied land based air has impacted IJA operations as after a 2 week seige Cairns still is a level 8 fort. Scout planes reveil Cooktown over 50% damage on port and airfield but seems to be entry point for IJA supply. Cap in the jpeg flies off the KB 300 miles to the north. The KB was 90 miles ne of Cairns the turn before but decided to make a tactical w/drawl.

The IJN Cap at Cairns has caught my c-47s transporting supply into Cairns an I will take damage to the aircrews and planes.

Directly south of Cairns the IJA has estabished an overland roadblock w/ two regiments that need to be disloged to establish a good supply route.

This photo shows an exhausted IJA that made a shock(banzia) attack the previous turn.

To the west the solomons are quite as the focus of the IJN is australia.

In a private note to Ike I wondered if the 35th brigade and all the siege artillery would really do a number at Cairns. Bet it never arrives.
