What types of MP games can we run. Is there a LAN or TCP/IP WEGO system supported. In the tactical battles how will they work in the MP environment?
Thanks this game certainly looks very very promising!

Right now there is no multiplayer support. However, the engine has been designed so that adding in multiplayer support down the road is a distinct possibility... even multiplayer with many players (more than a handful...).

So is the game singleplayer only, then (at least for now)?

It supports hotseat play for multiple players. As Sean said, the design has been made with a more advanced multiplayer addition (many players) in mind, which may happen down the road.

How can hotseat work if space combat is real-time?

The AI would have to play one side or both players will have to agree to just auto resolve battles.

NO MP support in this day in age. hmmm serious flaw IMHO. Mind you I will buy a copy on the hope sales will allow you to spend some time getting a decent MP option.

I've never played a 4x space game, or even a Total War game in multiplayer. Those are about the only kinds I don't anymore. I couldn't imagine how long a campaign would take but I'd likely die of old age before it ended - even if it were a PBEM type. [X(]

Eh. Multiplayer is always nice to have, but it's not necessary for me. The only reason I was curious about it at all is because a couple friends of mine are somewhat interested in the game, and we'd wondered/hoped if perhaps we'd be able to play it together. Not a huge deal if we can't, though, as we all play 4x games mostly in singleplayer mode anyway.

Many great games today are effectively single player. With that said, as noted above while the initial release (apart from hotseat play) is basically single player, the game was designed with future multiplayer support in mind.

Hmmm really you find the AI that challenging? Sorry I have not yet seen that in any matrix or any other strategy or wargame. Still looking though

"A contender for the best AI in any wargame"
Granted an excellent product. Best AI will get you maybe the equivalent of a good beginner human player IMHO. I have never see an AI in 20 + years of wargaming that could come close to a even intermediate level player. I think this decade and the next will certainly see the old gronards finally accept that MP play is the only way to go. Yes you have to play with another human at a set time and what not but its better than bashing a limited AI IMHO

I like this game already. No MP support by default. [8D]

So when you say 'future multiplayer' support - Are you saying PBEM?
And if it is PBEM, is it correct to assume it will it lose a LOT of its flavor like Forge of Freedom when it autoresolves the battles? Or are the battle sequences easier to transition into PBEM then FoF.

It's too early right now to comment on MP support. It's on the "list" of things if you know what I mean but since we're still working getting the game itself out the door we're not ready to talk about post-release stuff.

It sounds like a good game. I like single player for this kind of game and if the AI is on steroids all the better.

This game sounds interesting; when they come out with multiplayer support; our LAN group will definitely buy it.

the game concept surely looks like it's a small step to multiplayer: All players make their turns simultaneously and when everyone ends their turn, the resolution phase moves the ships, schedules the battles and works the build queues.
He wasn't kidding when he said he had MP in mind.

I've owned and played Sword of the Stars tons, and its imho the BEST turn based candidate for MP play, and it is still hard to play online, as the wait between turns becomes chronic after a while. I see TONS of people wanting MP for Total War series, but seriously...the wait time?(1 single battle will take 30 - 60 mins!!) I'm ALL ok with the game having it, but its not totally important for some of these games.
