No Japanese Submarine Doctrine off option?

Why not? It was just plain silly for the Japanese not to have no holds barred on MS shipping especially since the US and everyone else was doing it. There is no option to turn this off is there? We can have reliable US torpedoes but no sink anything doctrine for the Japanese. That just isn't fair.

the toggle is gone and it is OFF now... at least is it not what it was historical as the IJN subs attack merchants just fine.

It's OFF by default now. At least TRY to do some research before you whine.[8|]

Don't listen to Terminus! The submarine attacks off the West Coast, Christmas Island, Hawaii, Fiji, Colombo ... are just flukes. And the Glen sightings off the coast of Melbourne and Auckland... that's FOW. You really don't need to use escorts, trust me!

Thank you Old Chap, I will cease to use my escorts forthwith, and thank you again for your kind advice.

Historical yes but it would be nice to know how the war would have went without the Japanese submarine doctrine

Historical yes but it would be nice to know how the war would have went without the Japanese submarine doctrine

Lets be real clear here...

1. It is permanently and forever set to OFF

2. This means there is NO, ZERO, NADA Japanese doctrine for the Japanese player to contend with.

3. This means the Japanese can wage UNRESTRICTED, UNABASHED, UNASHAMED warfare on Merchants...

4. This means you CAN "know how the war would have went without the Japanese submarine doctrine"...because there is no doctrine in the game.

What about those of us who want to see what would happen if Japan has all the historical limitations of the real event? There is no option to turn this on is there? We can have UNreliable US torpedoes but sink everything doctrine for the Japanese. That just isn't fair.

"Doctrine" for both USN and IJN sub forces is up to the player. The option for reliable torps for USN is your new "what if" feature.

Go after merchants.....go after warships. Choice is yours.

Also, how expensive is it for the Japanese to say switch a factory production from Claudes to Zeroes for example?

depends. If you do it in small increments its not expensive, pile it on too quickly however and you'll hurt your economy in the long run.

Historically all the major WWII submarine powers had pre-war ideas of not shooting at merchant ships. Historically all the major submarine powers abandoned these ideas once they became combatants. Historically the Japanese submarines sank about 55 ships in the first six months of the war (see Rohwer) the vast majority were merchant ships. So the idea of a Japanese doctrine against shooting at merchant ships is a myth.
