A very disappointed customer

Hi,

As if the high cost of shipping for this game all the way from the USA to England was not enough, I also had to pay some 25$ for costume duty and in total the game has cost me now around a 110$+. To my huge disappointment, the game won't load. Indeed, I'm experiencing the very same problem which has been resported by others on this forum. The following poster describes the problem so accurately:

"I've loaded Starships Unlimited: Divided Galaxies to my PC's HD. When I click on the 'Play SU-DG' link on the game menu, the following happens:

1. I get a pop-up saying the Matrix avi intro file is not found.
I click the 'close' button on the pop-up.

2. The Ape Zone intro video plays.

3. I get a blank screen with a pointer-cursor that can be moved with the mouse, but otherwise does nothing. The only way to get out of this screen that I've found is to use 'cntrl+alt+del' to restart my PC.

I have tried the following to fix this:

1. Downloaded DirectX 8.1 and installed it.

2. Tried to start the game with all three graphics settings, 16 bit, 32 bit, and 24 bit settings on.

3. I always shut down the programs in the active tray in the lower right hand corner of my PC's screen before starting any game.

4. I've tried starting the game both while online and offline.

None of these have allowed me to get the game to play. Is there something I'm missing? (My PC meets the system criteria for SU-DG as outlined both in the online store and the manual.)

Any help I can get with this will be greatly apreciated! Thanks!

Eric Maietta"

I checked all the messages on this forum but Andrew seems to have failed in addressing it. I tried to download the newest patch but I keep getting the message that I should give up. In short, it is not working. I have taken a day off just to play this game cause I liked the demo so much and this is what I get!
Please feel free to make suggestions because I'm about to give up on this game.

Regards,
Leith

The problem with the patch is that it often writes it to the wrong directory (Matrix is using a not-very-smart installer). Check where your current version of Divided Galaxies is installed and change the directory accordingly when the patch asks. Also skip the v1.1 patch and use the v1.2 patch directly. Email me at support@apezone.com for faster responses if you still have problems.

Thank you, Andrew, for your fast response! In actual fact, it's downloading the patch that is the problem. The download won't even start. I have been trying to download the patch from :

http://www.matrixgames.com/insidemg/mod ... tit&lid=17

For a couple of hours I have been trying to no avail. Do you know of another site where I can get the patch from? Thank you!

I *really* wish I had more control over this.

BTW, just tried the link and it works for me. Maybe, it's a problem with cookies or some other browser setting. Email me if you still have problems (support@apezone.com) and we'll try something else.

Leith,

The link works here too. Do downloads from other FTP sites work? What browser are you using?

Here's a direct FTP link, let me know if this works better:

ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Starships ... Update.zip

Leith, just you know for the future. When the download doesn´t start it means that the server is really really busy. Seems you had the bad luck of beeing there at very busy times.

Have fun playing the game.
