On the map Amfreville on the grand campaign. this will be the third battle on this map so it is the third (?) turn of the 6th of June. After i get my forces picked and before the map comes up i get the crash. What can I do? I have tried different resolutions, all of them, to no avail.

Can you play a single Battle on Amfreville?

Did you start a new campaign? When ever a patch is applied there could be problems with any ongoing Grand Campaign or Operation....

Amfreville is one of the smaller maps.
Try setting the res to 800x600...if that works then there's a problem with your graphic card driver scaling feature.

Thanks for ideas all but still crashing. Here is more info to help.

I updated to the new patch, then started a new campaign with the new patch.

I have tried different screen resolutions both in game and on my monitor, including 800X600, windowed and not windowed.

I can play that map in a stand alone scenario (even now)and this would have been the third battle on this map in this campaign.

Every time it starts to load then crashes when i play this scenario. Any help? TIA

Ok

You can play Amfreville in single Battles?

What Bg's are on your map in the campaign....

Can you create a single battle in the scenario editor with the same BG's on Amfreville. and play it?

Can you post your save d game file here?

Tom G.,

Thanks for sending in your file.  The problem is some incorrect data in the saved game file. I am investigating the problem, but here is a short term solution for your particular case: Go to the Battlegroup Screen and remove the bazooka team from the US battle group, and then re-add.

Have you been playing this game single player the whole time -- i.e. this wasn't a multi-player game at some point?

Are you using all the stock data files from "Close Combat: The Longest Day" - no modifications or editing of the text files in the \DATA\BASE\ directory?

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Steve,

Thank you for the work around I will do that on monday. To answer your questions, Yes this Campaign was all single player the whole time. No, I have not downloaded any mods nor have i used the editor to change anything. Wouldn't know how to if I wanted to do that.

Thanks again,
Tom

Hi Steve,

When trying to deselect the Bazooka Team My game crashes, same thing when I try and deselect the infantry group right above my Bazooka Team. Trying to click on the Bazooka team (and using the remove button on the bottom) is when the game crashes.

Confirmed crash

1. When selecting existing Bazooka Team (so unable to remove team)

2. When removing Infantry team directly above Bazooka team

When trying to deselect the Bazooka Team My game crashes...

Ok - it worked under the debug build I was testing with, but apparently not release. Attached is a new saved game that has been fixed.

I am having similar issues with Amfreville and other sized maps. I have the new patch, and all the saved games were from after the installation.

Jon C.

Can you explain you problem in more detail.

Can you play single battles on Amfreville?

Does it crash when you try and remove certain teams from your active roster just before battle?

ANy error messages appear?

I'm getting the same problem with Amfreville. It crashes both in campaign and single battles.

I'm running Windows 7. After the unit select screen, as you go into the battle the grey bar that gives you the status as the map is loading is not centered, but is towrads the bottom right of the black screen.

It the comes up with the error Close Combat Executable Engine has stopped working.

I'm running 1600x900 resolution, but when I lower the resolution for that map, it works OK.

Also, i'm still getting regular crashes on other maps either going into the map, or at the end of the battle.

I wonder if this is a Windows 7 thing, or a common issue.

Same problem with Amfreville, both in the campaign and in the single battle mode. I get a Windows Vista error sometimes "Device Lost" when I try to load the program after repeatedly trying to play Amfreville. Most of the time I can get to the map and select my teams and then when I try to start the battle a "Close Combat executable has stopped working" message comes up. But in none of my tries does the scroll function work, and my team data doesn't show at the bottom of the map (yes, I've made sure that option is on). I'll try setting the map resolution as above and see if that helps.

What are you running TLD on, make there is a trend?

Operating System:
DirectX:
Video Card:
Video Driver:
Video Resolution:
Close Combat:

Below is what I'm running and Amfreville is fine.

Operating System: Vista 64
DirectX: DirectX 11
Video Card: Nvidia 9800 GTX+
Video Driver: 190.62 - the newer 191.07 made Vista unstable for me
Video Resolution: 1920x1200 desktop and game
Close Combat: windowed mode
