So, we know of the asteroid attack.
Are we able to create and destroy planets?
Are we able to create and destroy stars?
Are we able to create and destroy populated artificial worlds, such as orbitals/halos?

Are we able to create and destroy planets?
if not in the current game, would it be possible to mod it in. (would love to see the Death Star in this game)

Yikes:

Unfortunately, no. You can do all sorts of nasty things to planets but completely eradicate them off the map is not something you can do. No halos/orbitals either, sorry.

I don't know. But, I will say that I would not be surprised if this was possible.

Well, actually regarding the creation of artificial worlds I think the verdict would be yes. There are systems you can discover with no planets in them at all. Once you get high enough in colonization technology, you are able to colonize those systems. Whether this means building a starbase, a ring world, or what have you, it's up to you. Similarly, at the highest level you can create a "mother ark" that seems to me something along the lines of Rama.

Are these abstracted concepts (e.g. a bonus, a building slot) within the game or are these concrete distinguisable and visuablely represented objects on the map(s)?

Regarding ringworlds and other miracles of construction: Building such a thing in "reality" would consume unimaginable amounts of resources and - most important - lots of time. Millenia, if you're really really fast.
The timescope in which 2526 happens (and every other 4x game with the notable exception of Spore) wouldn't allow anything in the magnitude of ringworlds, no matter how far you stretch the logic of these kind of games.
Artificial planets ... now, that's kinda imaginable - even without thinking of that one shitty Star Trek movie.

You build Space Stations in planet-less systems. I think there was a screenshot showing this, somewhere.
SSs have slightly different rules than planets.

Well, it is in Malfador's gameworld, but every game has its only logic of what is supposed to be possible and what not and so Ntronium's without doubt. [:)]

There is a screenshot with an installation on an asteroid (or small moon) - at least I suppose it is to be an installation related to the asterioid.
I am really looking forward this game now. Hope there's soon a tag to order.

You mean like harvesting neutronium from neutron stars and build ships with it? [;)]
Oh, and there's plenty of "magic" in the game. Ringworlds wouldn't be totally off in it.

and when you say starbase in planetless system, you also mean: when you go to battle you get a blank map with on one side a big starbase? if so, does the starbase already have defenses build in or do you have to construct those sepratly?

It appears as if the more you advance in the necessary fields on the tech tree, the better stats your base will receive. (just a guess of course)

Sweet. Thanks. I'm a happy camper today, now. At least it is vaguely in the game enough to allow our imaginations work in our own way. To each his own.
I'm still eagerly awaiting the game; but I hope it is not rushed to a sloppy condition.

The technologies of "nanites" and "energy to matter conversion" and others can do such wonderous things as help construct artificial worlds such as orbitals/halos, ringworlds, and sphereworlds in a fast time frame; at least in my imagination...and probaly in others imagination too.
(oops...I should have put these three posts into one.)
