Greetings All,

We have a new version of Operation Barbarossa - The Struggle for Russia that we would like to make official, but we would like our Members Club to give it a test drive. It includes the Nato counters and Increased Zoom ranges. This is a Beta version, so please inform us of any issues that may arise.

How to download the Public Beta update:

Register your copy of Operation Barbarossa in our Members Club here:

http://www.matrixgames.com/community/login.asp

Then go to My Games and Private Downloads for OB and you should find the v1.12 Public Beta. Download it and double-click to run the update installer.

Here's the change list:

Changes from 1.12 to 1.14

· NATO symbols included (could be toggled in Options/Graphics or with "N"). PDF included that explains layout of counters.
· Zoom in/out level has been increased.
· Display bug in the weather layer has been fixed.
· AI bug with moving pak/artillerie units has been fixed.
· Loading a saved game while HQ/unit info/upgrade window is open doesn´t cause a crash anymore.
· In most text fields ASCII chars >127 (special characters) can be used now.
· Some text issues have been fixed.

@Andrew Loveridge,

thanks for the beta patch.

I opted for matrix and not for the original Panzer General.
Reason, the outstanding service by Matrix.

The game is fun.
A bit more tweaking, modding, refinement and improvments, and a few more suggestions of gamer implemented then we get a really good, maybe outstanding little game of his money's worth.

Trust in God. Confidence in Matrix. [:)]

Yes congrats to Matrix for the excellent new Nato icons..:)

I've got two more suggestions for future upgrades-
1- Let the strength labels always be blue for German and red for Russian, no matter which side the human takes.
2- Remove the grey Russian star and grey German cross from the white portion of the new Nato icons, they're not necessary and detract from the crisp appearance of the icons.

Agree with both of Spike's points though the colour of the strength lables is less of a issue when playing with the Nato icons.

If we keep the stars / crosses etc. would it be possible to make the German cross less bold as it seems to stand out a lot more than the soviet star and also the Romanian's with their brightly coloured flag jar a bit in comparison.

I also like the way you have applied the Nato icons, initially I thought we were going to be in for a very large and confusing range of icons to account for all the possible variations of unit types and sub-types. The solution that has been adopted of putting the name of the unit type (ie. T34/85) on the counter is both simple and effective.

It looks stupid to have red labels on German units and blue on Russian

The colors of the labels are not connected with nations. They are connected with teams (team one = red, team two = blue) to make it more clear for multiplayer combats and for flexibility. It is possible to create scenarios with Russians on both sides - so it won´t make sense to give both parties red labels.

If you play the Russian campaign then Russian forces have a red label and German ones have a blue label.[;)]

What?
All i know is that traditionally German labels should always be blue and Russian labels should always be red, otherwise it's a bit jarring on the eyeballs

while i respect you opinion, i have to add that there are many games that use other colours for the Russians besides red. Germans are also often labeled grey. E.g. PG II uses yellow for the Russians.
Then again as you like to play with counters i do not understand the problem as the counters are red for the Russians and grey for the Germans.

But maybe i miss something here.
