From the manual page 25:
7.1 KIA Button (k)
"This button removes all the units from the map and displays only those
units that have been killed in the course of the battle.
In Kharkov, some destroyed units can be returned to play, and if these
units are killed twice they will be displayed twice on the map."

Hey, that´s a joke or what? [:-]

Oh jeh,
the living dead.

Must be those armies wearing black uniforms and shown a skull on the caps.

Well, this feature is nonsens.

The following is taken from another forum and relates to a different game - but the discussion is the same:

If memory serves, there was a lengthy discussion of the KG/BG strengths after the original WitE came out.

Anyway, the theory offered by the game designers (I can't remember if it was Redmond or not, but it may have been) was that in point of fact the KG/BG represented the bulk of the unit (something like 50-60% minimum) but that the COMBAT value dropped so much because historically, the bulk of the casualties suffered by combat units occurred in the combat arms vice the support troops.

The theory being that the loss of the combat elements deprives the support units of the ability to effectively contribute much to actual combat, but the KG/BG remains a powerful potential for combat power once the combat elements are fleshed back out.

That's also why the replacement point costs were so relatively "low" in terms of production costs -- you were only replacing a relatively small number of troops and equipment.

If you read Dunnigan's Dirtly Little Secrets of World War II you'll find numerous tables that provide the same information.

Well, you would agree that HQ units need unlimited lives, right? After all, its not too hard to promote somebody, and HQ guys usually have access to lots of transport and can retreat when times get tough. So although you will suffer delay and disruption if you get a HQ killed, you shouldn't be permanently deprived of a HQ.

For some combat units we feel that they had a limited capacity to recover from adverse results in combat. They only get one life, they return to the map after two days with only one step and will thus take even longer to really usable as a fighting force, so we don't think this is unreasonable.
