The music won't stay OFF. I can turn it off, but it resets itself to On when I press ESC to save a game, or when I ALT-Tab out and return.

This is really irritating because it interferes with my playing of my own music in the background.

We need an Option to Shut Up All Game Music And Sound, And STAY SHUT UP.

Sounds like that setting should stick, thanks for the heads up.

I found a way to turn the sound off permnanently, but it's not intuitive. Look at the tab labelled "Direc Sound". Cilicking on that gives an option for No Sound which works.

It's a very irritating problem that seems to be either in DirectSound or the sound middleware I'm using.
Hitting F12 (the mute key) twice will restore the sound settings you set.
