We are looking to refine the USN Construction Bn OOBs for da Babes. We have all the TOEs, but need OOB info (unit designation and formation date) for the following unit types:

US Naval Construction Battalions (std SeaBees)
US Naval Special Construction Battalions (aka SeaBee Specials)
US Naval Construction Maintenance Battalions

Understand there's a couple hundred, total, but any help, especially on the Specials and Maintenance Bns, would be appreciated. Thanks.

I sent a note off to a friend that is involved in the Seabees and I am hoping he can point me in the right direction for TO&E info. Keep the candle burning [;)]

NOTES:
1) This organization represents the “typical” Naval Construction Battalion. This organization could vary depending upon the unit’s task.
2) The Naval Construction Battalions assigned to the Marine Divisions starting with the 7/1/42 “D-100” Series T/O only contained 3 companies. All other Naval Construction Battalions contained 4. The Naval Construction Battalions were removed from the divisional T/O starting with the 5/5/44 “F-100” Series. The Naval Construction Battalions attached to Marine Divisions, and to IIIAC, are as follows:

18th Naval Construction Battalion – 3rd Battalion/18th Marines/2nd Marine Division
19th Naval Construction Battalion – 3rd Battalion/17th Marines/1st Marine Division
25th Naval Construction Battalion – 3rd Battalion/19th Marines/3rd Marine Division
121st Naval Construction Battalion – 3rd Battalion/20th Marines/4th Marine Division
53rd Naval Construction Battalion – IIIAC corps asset.

Thanks much. Love it when people drill down into the details of how a Theater works.

We do have detailed TO&Es, all the way down to the number of Seaman 3d cooks and wharf rats, for Constr. Bns. (as part of a MarDiv), Constr. Bns. (Indep), Special Constr.Bns., Constr. Maint.Bns, and have the individual platoon organizations for definition into Special Constr. Detachments.

What we are looking for is the numerical designation of these units, especially the Special Construction Battalions.

We know just how they are organized. What we would like to know is how they were numbered, and when they were activated.

Thanks.

Some info:

It seems that several of these units were stevedores. I'll look around this week for my sources.
