Making my lists from the factory data: in the Scanner table, what does the "VH" column refer to, please? (As the scanner improves from 1-6, VH goes 9,8,7,10,12,11.)

Virtual Height. It's added to the hex height and titan height to calculate line of sight. Very important.

Thanks, Iceman. It'll be more useful when I'm more competent, but I'm glad to know about it.

By the way, if you didn't know it.
The led's on the right hand side of the battle interface. click on them to determine your weapons, systems etc,. . .
There are lost of little things going on in TOS that aren't completely necessary but add to the spirit of the game.

Not VERY important. EXTREMELY important. This is one of the best aspects of your scanners. Granted, it's nice to be able to lock onto your enemies faster, etc. (scanners are wonderful things) but I find it most enjoyable to sit securely behind a mountain, out of your enemy's LoS, and still be able to see him (and link with that bad *** missile titan a few miles behind). That's why I love scanners. Tactically they are one of the MOST important components of any titan. Strategically, they are probably the second most important, right behind the balanced team.

Hmm, as I said, VERY important IMO. I wouldn't say extremely, as there are more important things.
Scanners are not responsible for faster locking, battle computers are. A mountain will block your LoS whatever your scanner, unless you're on hills or your opponent is on hills. The best way to achieve tactical advantage is still by having the high ground, though virtual height helps a lot. In fact, these two when combined can make you "see" your enemy when he can't "see" you.
Scanners are good to identify your target, as you'll be reduced to 15 hexes sight without one. They're also mandatory for called shots, and finding weaknesses in your target. And of course, to gain xp.
Still, I prefer to play without a scanner than without a battle computer.
