Having trouble applying the RBG/RCG Editors hotfix

The editors don't open properly for me, so I tried applying Stridor's hotfix using regedit. I'm running 64-bit Vista.

When I go to:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htafile\shell\open\command

I have:

(Default) =

C:\Windows\%SystemRoot%\SysWOW64\mshta.exe "%1" %*

Should I lose the "C:\Windows\" part? I tried both with and without, and either way, when I try to open the editors now, nothing happens -- no error messages, just nada.

Appreciate any advice here -- kind of out of my depth with this!

Assuming you have vista installed to c:\windows (the default)

(Default) =

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\mshta.exe "%1" %*

Should work.

Incidently if you found it as C:\Windows\%SystemRoot%\SysWOW64\mshta.exe "%1" %*

then some software on your computer either now or in the past has changed it as that define is totally abnormal.

Stridor -- thanks as usual for your help! I reset the Define = to that setting (i think that's what was there originally, but can't be 100% sure.)

When I open Random Battle Generator, I am getting the old script error message again:

An error has occurred in the script on this page.

Line: 2887
Char: 2
Error: Invalid argument
Code: 0
URL: file:///C:/Matrix%20Games/Panzer%20Command%20Kharkov/PzCRBg.hta

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

Nothing different seems to happen if I answer "Yes" or "No." The Random Battle Generator screen stays open, but most of the .gif (or whatever they are)graphic icons are blanked out -- if I try clicking on one, I get a "red X" graphic and messages like "Russian Minefields: undefined".

Would love to be able to use this feature, but can't seem to make it work!

sandman do the following programs work (double click on them in the PCK root folder)

PzCSed.hta (Scenario Editor)
PzCCed.hta (Campaign Editor)
PzCRCg.hta (Random Campaign Generator)

?

This will help narrow the problem down.

I take it that you have downloaded the latest hotfixes already?

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2220232

AND that after you have downloaded the hotfix zip but BEFORE you have extracted the files into the PCK root dir that you have unblocked the zip.

(Right click and select properties / unblock).

This is a windows protection mechanism since XP SP3 + is on vista + windows 7.

This has tripped up a few people in the past.

Well, i'm an idiot...[8|] I hadn't installed the IE8 hotfixes (...guess i wasn't entirely sure what they were for, or if v.1.01 came with them already installed)

But this seems to have fixed it. Tried the RBG and RCG, and they opened fine -- everything seems to be functioning correctly now.

Thanks a lot for your help! very much appreciate it

No probs.

There is a lot of fun to be found with the random battle / campaign generators.

You can even edit the control files to make your own very specific random battles / campaigns if you want (but that is an advanced feature).

The upcoming megapatch will have about 20 new high quality maps which will improve the random battle experience.

Merry Christmas
