I just bought the game and played two scenarios. It was easy to learn and is fun to play. Thanks. Merry Christmas.

I also am new to this game, I love it! I play TOW and CEAW all this time, it is a nice change. When will war in the east be out?

After reading the pros and cons on this and Slitherine forums, I decided this was a game I wanted and downloaded it last night. Haven't played it much yet, but after messing around with it and checking out all the features, it looks like a great game. I just hope the folks at Slitherine keep their promises and keep developing this. I'd sure like to see more scenarios and especially more eras and troops types. The game seems to be the perfect blend of not too complex and ease of play that most Ancients gamers are looking for. If it's half as much fun as Command & Colors: Ancients, then I couldn't ask for more. I just hope Slitherine keeps updating this because they could have a real winner here.
My only gripe right now is that I'd much prefer the ablility to directly save play-by-email as files directly on my computer instead of having to go through the multi-player challenge system. Was this done as an anti-piracy issue?

I'm really pleased with my purchase of the game too. I'm still learning the ropes and haven't progressed much from the simpler scenarios, which are really good fun and very addictive. My first foray into multiplayer has begun today too and it's completely painless to get going. It's as easy to play against another person as it is to select a game against the AI. Very impressive. Well done Slitherine.

I love the game too! It's fun. My best purchase for long long time (and I do purchase of matrix titles, nearly all of them !)
I have however some remarks:
1) the AI is very week. I never lost a battle without having to think too much. AI is definitely not challenging.
2) How soon will I be bored ?
Fortunately for my 2 remarks, the game is clearly oriented toward online multiplayer ! I think that when an official ladder is organized it will answer my two concerns. Building an official ladder should be a priority for the developers in order to secure gamers for the long run.

That is.. really.. odd.
I think it's great how they set up the PBEM. I always hated jacking with email and juggling those files back & forth. I would think
most people are the same.

Me too. One of the things that put me off playing PBEM with many games in the past is the pain in the neck of having to email files back and forth. This is seamless and easy.

You got me there. I made that statement before I actually understood how the challenge thing worked. Now that I've registered there and checked it out, I realize what I said has no context. I guess I leaped before I looked.
I really like the game and am glad I bought it. I've been messing with the game quite a bit and reading the manual to see what's under the hood. I think my confidence has been built up enough to actually put my dignity on the line and accept a challenge.

I've also bought the game, which reminds me very much of the Great Battles series (in appearance if nothing else). Enjoyed a few games and getting my head around the rules before venturing off for a PBEM. [:)]

I've been playing several multiplayer games and really enjoying it. The Slitherine multiplayer server does work well and smoothly. However, a few problems with this multiplayer system have cropped up and have been discussed on their forums.
First, you cannot play user created scenarios multiplayer. Only against the AI. Currently you have to submit user created scenarios to the designers and they will consider putting them into future patches. This is understandable as otherwise the multiplayer system would be in chaos.
Secondly, several people on the Slitherine forum have complained that when an opponent fails to responed anymore to a game in progress, there is no way to delete that game from your twenty game limit. In essence if an opponent gives up and doesn't resign, then that game never ends and there is no way to contact him. It's unlikely to happen, but I guess it's remotely possible to to have all twenty slots in your games in progress filled with unfinished games and then you would be out of luck. I'm almost certain though that the staff at Slitherine would be able to delete such games if requested to do so.
These are minor problems that I'm sure the designers will correct in future patches. All in all, though, this has proved to be a very welcome addition to my game catalog. I'm glad I bought the game and I'm having a lot of fun playing multiplayer. (I'm also learning painfully how to keep from getting my butt kicked all over the battlefield. [:D])
