Wrote this during history. We just finished studying the Holocaust... might have influenced it to some extent...
They filed into the yard, hundreds of them, dirty, greasy, and identically clad. They quietly talked amoung themselves. Who were they going to call out today? What would happen to them? Would we be allowed to eat afterwards?
Once the prisoners got in their appropriate positions, they fell silent. The soldiers on the walls had rifles trained on the crowd; one mand held a microphone. They waited. A prisoned whispered something to his neigbhor. There was a loud crack. He stiffened as a red stain spread across his shirt, and collapsed.
The man with the microphone spoke.
"The following prisoners will stand forth," blared the speakers. "Prisoner 47332, block A: Rumanov, Dimitri." A prisoner left the group and stood in the open space. "You are charged with stealing from a guard. Your sentance is death." Crack! The man fell. "15450, block B: Smith, Eric C." Another prisoner stepped foreward. "Your trial was reopened, and you were found not guilty. Enter the door to the left." A door opened; the man walked through. A murmer passed through the crowd. Three shots and three more bodies silenced them.
The Man went through four more prisoners from block B, dispensing punishment seemingly on a whim. Young women were killed for taking food, and men who killed guards were given forced labor. He continued through three block C prisoners; one was released to the right. He had been recruited by a team of Titan pilots. Josua Dennison wondered when it would be over.
The next names were called. "30929, block D: Dennison, Josua." Startled, he stepped into the open area. What had he done? The Man called again. "43817, block E: Annine, Kathrine." A woman stepped up next to him. "A Titan team has chosen both of you to fight for them. Procede through the door on the right."
Mechanically, the two moved towards teh door. Behind them, they heard teh MAan call another prisoner. "84877, block D..."
