Column? Die-roll combat resolution?

Did some searching in the forum but couldn't find an answer to this question.

Pg. 34 of the manual mentions "total odds for the combat, and what Column the combat is resolved on" -- all well and good, but not an explanation.

What does "Column" mean? Is there a relationship between "Column" and the combat odds? (sure there is, but what?)

What do the "die roll" graphics mean on the "Combat Result" pop-up? The example on pg. 35 shows:

Column 7:1
Germany "Attack D6" -- rolled 4 -- "light losses"
Poland "Defence D6" -- rolled 2 -- "very high losses"
"Defender Destroyed!"

Would love to know exactly what this means...

Many thanks --  helps, but not sure i understand it entirely -- using the example again from the manual:

Poland "Defence D6" -- using CRT Defender losses , column 7, rolled 2 = 70% destroyed :  "very high losses"

Germany "Attack D6" -- using CRT Attacker losses, column 7, rolled 4 = Defender's loss (70%) x  0.1 = 7% destroyed :  "light losses"

Is this correct?

Yes, it's correct. Look at it this way. You have 700 soldiers attacking 100 (thus gaining a 7-1). Die roll 2 says defender suffer 70 % losses, which means 70 soldiers gone. The attacker rolls a 4, meaning 10 % losses. Since these losses are a percentage of the defender's losses, it means 7 soldiers lost (70 soldiers x 0.10).

Piece of cake, eh? It took me quite a while figuring this out, I tell you.

OK -- thanks Uxbridge -- kind of a counter-intuitive system to me (attacker's losses being a percentage of defender's losses -- would not have occurred to me!)

How did you figure this out without sixes on the die?

it's in the const.csv file

This is the CRT for land units from the consts.csv

When I copied this section over to another spreadsheet, I re-organized it to make it fit better so I could post it.
