Just got back from Avatar 3D and we all thought it was a great film... The attention to detail and the world they created was awesome. Not sure how much the 3D added to it apart from a few quid to the bill but a good afternoon's viewing... Well recommended. [&o]

You lucky person! I'm desperate to see it after watching the HD trailer about a hundred times. Lack of babysitter prevents this at the moment I'm waiting for the inlaws to offer to drive the 70 miles to come and do their bit [:D]

I saw it in Digital 3D and enjoyed it, but it was nowhere near the blockbuster it is hyped to be. I gave it a 7 out of 10 at IMDb. The plot is similar to the story of Pocahontas, strangely enough.

YMMV, of course. I guy I work with thought it was one of the best movies he's ever seen. Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, eh?

I saw the 3D version last week.  Worth seeing but still.. meh.

Nice and flashy.  I'd second the Pocahontas reference.  The plot is just another rehash for the most part.  Add a dash of politics and some shallow characters, you're good to go.

Saw it about 2 hours ago. Thought it was amazing...best film I've seen since Lord of the Rings and I would probably put it way ahead of that!

I know one person who saw it both 2D and 3D.  He says the 3D experience was incomparably better.  I saw it 3D and thought it was great.  A good movie, old theme, Dances with Wolves in Space as some have called it, but the special effects and 3D are simply incredible.  It is a great movie from that standpoint. 

I keep reading it is an antiwar movie, but I don't get that message from the  movie based on the actions of the indigenous big blue people.  If anything, it is a movie in part about how you have to fight for your liberty sometimes. 

There is also an obvious in-your-face environmentalist theme, but I've found very few people who saw the movie who really care about that theme one way or the other.

saw it in 2d last weekend, story pretty "negh" however travelling about 300ks on the 2nd to see it in 3d... why?  Because I can.
 
My thoughts on the theme was it's wholly "Green Fascist" (which is the mindset of the hardcore greeny).   The human race needed the unobtainium to survive the mess we'd made of Earth, we could no longer get unobtainium thus the human race is kaputt!  QED.

I saw it last week in 2D because my thrteen year old son prefers 2D to 3D, go figure. He was not at all impressed and I was less so. It was such a ripoff of Dances With Wolves that I couldn't get past it. At least DWW was interesting to me and I liked the exploration of the Native American culture but I really didn't care about the fictional smurfs. I am also tired of of the enviromental religious beliefs being trumpeted as our only salvation. It is getting really old and the portrayal of tribal culture as some peace-loving nirvana where everyone gets along fine is silly as well. Its like none of these true-belivers has ever heard of tribal warfare. Bust of a movie and completely hyped.

Sherlock Holmes is a much better film.

Lord of the Rings Trilogy is a much better production and film(s). Best movie I've seen since the Alien series. The Lord of the Ring games are much better than the Avatar one as well.

I hope you noticed that the tribes in Avatar had apparently been warring among themselves, and banded together by the "messiah", and benevolent nonbias scientists (did you hear angles just now?) to fight off the new tribe (evil private corporation, backed by evil military) on the block. They will be back to their "peace" loving ways of killing each other off as soon as the "bad boy" is kicked off their planet. It's an old story. Self reliance, individual freedom, creativity, replaced by the collective imposed will of the people with a supposed "messiah" with no other intention other than you should feel blessed by the mere presence of the magnificance of it all. Pardon me while I wipe my eyes and get up from my prostration to the greatnes of what has been revealed to my feeble brain.


Sherlock Holmes is a must see for me. I loved those books. I hope the movie is good. Lets hope there isn't any political undertones in that one. I'm tired of being blatantly preached too.

Oh sure, even DWW portrayed the "savage" side of Native American culture at the very beginning but after that very small bit they were all a bunch of innocent children of nature.[8|] I am just not impressed with this sort of tripe. I would rather have watched DWW again instead of Avatar. I guess I am just not enlightened enough to appreciate such revelations but I am thankful that the Avatar has opened my eyes.[>:] I avoid going to church so as to be spared being preached too.[;)]

It is an excellent film, does not portray Watson as Laurel to Holmes' Hardy, and avoids waving the middle finger at the US mainstream....

have seen it twice and may well go a third time this evening.

Yep, I could only watch a few minutes of that before I realized where it was headed.[8|] There was a good reason why the Crow were allied to the United States against the Oglala Sioux. Not that the US did well by their ally in the end but it should be noted that the Little Big Horn site is on a Crow Reservation.

Never heard of "500 Nations" before so I looked it up on IMB. The user review by "54moon" from France is, hmmm, "enlightening". I think I will give that one a miss too [;)]

Ok...actually I feel sorry for you, because clearly you're so politically wrapped up you can't see out of it!

The only message I picked up from it was it was a good film with some great CGI...end of. Maybe one day you'll be able to watch something without trying to read to hard into the "subliminal" message! [8|]
