I just noticed that I CANNOT assign VADM Halsey to command a task force (this is late December 1941). In the editor he's listed as being able to command a Headquarters (just like in the old WITP).

In the old WITP a naval officer who could command a HQ could also command a TF. When and why did this change?

do you have enough PP?  I recall halsey takes a lot of PP to assign.

I have more than enough PP.

The problem is not PP ... the problem is that he ONLY shows up on the HQ screen and not the TF screen.

Well are you sure he's not assigned to another TF (like the Enterprise TF) already?

YES I'm sure. The Enterprise TF was disbanded in port about 10 turns ago and I obviously haven't reassigned him to another TF because he's not an option on the TF commander screen.

Just checked an old save (from Patch 1) and you can.  Checked a newer save (Patch 2 Hotfix 2) and you can't.  Looks like something has changed in between times with Halsey.

The Bull is not meant to command a lowly TF. He should be C-in-C Pac. That is what I heard from JFBs. [:D]

Spruance is way better anyway. [;)]

Halsey is a VADM in scenario 1. He should be available for assignment to any TF that contains a capital ship. If you think you have a circumstance where he can not, please post a save in the tech support forum.

This scenario was based off the campaign scenario version from the initial release. Not sure what number it was before patch 1.

I don't think I have a circumstance where he can't be assigned to a TF I KNOW.

It shouldn't just be HALSEY. In WITP any naval officer who could command a HQ also was available to TF. Before the last patch it was the same here too obviously.

I have him commanding a CV TF in my game, so I don't know what's going on here.

I'm having the same problems too with Halsey as he can't be assigned to a carrier TF flagship. I'm playing historical grand campaign (silent China) version 1097 patch
His name only shows up with Pacific HQ along with Nimitz and other small list of naval leaders for HQ command.

Any way around this issue?

The reason I say this, as I was looking into the WITPldr032 file and noticed there were 9 leaders with the delay time of 4 or 5.
Units 7343 7749 8559 10404 10528 11531 11932 12433 and 14052.
All have "some nickname" in their name field.
(note: there are 2 others in the db that have nicknames, but don't have errors in them)

Halsey's (unit 10528) name is listed as.
"Halsey, Wm F ""Bull"",30,82,71,76,76,34,47,90,4,411206,50,1
10529,Halsey"

Then the rest of the stats are
K.J." 23 53 52 40 17 20 32 67 4 440115 1 5 5 is the code for commandtype ship
It looks like in the name file in each case of errors: the first, second and fifth " should not be there.

I think I have been able to assign Halsey since the last patch came out.  It takes 50 PP to assign him, and I do not think it worth the expenditure for a TF commander.  However, I did seem him on the available list when setting up an air combat TF.  The TF eventually got blown to hell when it ran into 9 Japanese carriers off of Wake.  I don't think Halsey would have changed that outcome.  Interestingly enough, early intelligence indicated I got two of the Japanese carriers as well in a simultaneous strike.  However, my guess is the planes and pilots survived for my oponent.

Just checked my recently started game (scenario 1) vs. the AI, and I can confirm Halsey is unavailable to be assigned to a task force when I create a CV task force and check the available leaders list. He is listed as a VADM suited for assignment to an air HQ when I select leaders for the Pacific HQ unit at Pearl.
