Artillery bombardment ?

Regarding artillery bombardment, could you please give us a little detail how this is handled ?
Is such an option in the game and will it be possible to select targets manually or will it all be controlled totally by the AI ?
I though this was pretty good as it was modeled in WiR/SF, i.e. both entrenched & "active" units could bombard a user-selected (adjacent) target each round. Actually, for one corp/container, two bombardments + a move of 1 hex could be squeezed into one turn (assuming enough readiness naturally).
Yes, bombardment does not seem very sexy I know but was a key element both in the attrition warfare on the east front and in the softening of targets/entry-points before a major "blitzkrieg" punch.
In WiR/SF, the AI was (as far as I can remember) pretty much neglecting the bombardment option and did not use it much. If used wisely by the human player, it could somewhat check the growth of the AI which of course made a difference over time.
Edit: How much readiness do you lose if you bombard, a significant amount ?
