Well, I have a dual core and it runs well for me. As to it USING the Dual Core - you need to hear from Elliot.

So it uses the 4 cores then?

I have no idea, but it doesn't seem to hinder the game (like, say... Hearts of Iron 3). I wouldn't even know how to tell if it was using the Dual core. However, I seem to remember Elliot saying something about the Nebulas and star field (backdrop) being shunted to one core, leaving the other core to process ship movements, AI and stuff. I'm pretty sure this was about Distant Worlds and not AI War - both of which use nebulas and star fields.

Yes, the game uses multiple cores to some extent. I highly recommend at least a dual-core CPU for Distant Worlds. Quad-core CPUs will have some benefit over dual-core in the game, but not significantly.

Sorry to hear that.

So if Dual Core is recommended, how much Ram is recommended? 2GB-4GB range or is more the better like say 8GB?

How well does the game get along with 64bit OS vs 32bit?

32bit OS and single core processors are being left behind now as old tech. Much like the older 16bit games now need DosBox or an equivalent program to even run on today's systems.

I don't have a dual-core and it's running fine...[;)] but then, i've got 2.5 GB of ram....

If it runs on my computer, it should run almost everywhere! [:D]

My single core runs it without a glitch. I have nebulae turned to about half way. FPS runs full. Zoomed in most of the time and it never clips.

Hi Anguille!

I have a Dual Core CPU with a 64 bit OS (win XP PRO 64) and 8GB of 1066DDR2 ram so I think I'll do fine. [:D]

1Gb RAM is the minimum required. But you need 2Gb RAM to play the larger galaxies (1000+ stars). Runs fine on 64-bit OSes.

I have a P4 3.0GHZ, 2GB RAM, Nvidia 8800GT, Win XP Media Center Edition (32 bit I believe) with SP3.  Will that meet the minimum if not the recommended specs?  How much of the graphics would I have to turn down/off to play?  I realize it is hard to say so I'm just looking for a best guess.

You have a better video card than I do Elmo, but I have a a Dual Core 2.0 lappy with 4GB RAM. Mine plays pretty well at 1440x900, with some nebula turned down. You reduce the nebula and the resolution, and I would think you will do fine.

Why would it be about AI War? Wait, these arent the same devs is it ? =D

No obviously it isn't when the developer of Ai War: Fleet Command is at www.arcengames.com and is an american. Whilst the developer of Distant Worlds is at www.codeforce.co.nz in New Zealand. Different companies and locations you see?

Those specs should be fine for any size galaxy.

You should run fine with the default graphics settings. On a single-core machine you might want to turn off the system nebulae clouds. But as Larry said, he left these on with his single-core machine and didn't have a problem with this.

I know.. Thats why i was wondering about the one i quoted being uncertain wether or not Elliot was talking about this game or AI War.
Read next time thx ;o

You asked a question, if it was the same devs. Perhaps you should try and be more clear about what it is you mean.
