Paradox 3rd party title, due in Q1 2010, comparing itself with Close Combat and Combat Mission. No clue it can live up to this standard, but at least soldiers are linked to squads here. There is also a (russsian language) demo available.

Looks good. But everyone keeps asking the same question about building occupation, Yes or no.

A preview from Tim Stone:
"In between bouts of confusion, I’ve witnessed my gallant Ivans Molotov passing halftracks, flee warehouses set ablaze by flammpanzers, and perish under the tracks of predatory Pz. IIIs. More significantly, I’ve been able to fiddle with an intriguing turn-based ops layer that looks certain to give Front Roads skirmishes rare rootedness. However skilled a scenario author and well-paced a campaign sequence, nothing beats the thrill of the unforeseen unintended engagement.

Is this the same game?
If so, it sounds like some buildings can be occupied, no?
Is this real-time or turn-based?

There is no English demo as yet. So I peaked into the Russian one but didn't understand much for sure. Kharkov has some kind of strategic layer with several screens, where you obviously can choose troops and locations - reminded me a bit to CC4 / CC5. Afterwards you got thrown onto the battlefield. The game plays in pausable realtime (1x, 2x, 4x), animations are rather mediocre and visuals inferior to Theatre of War, but you have linked squads and don't need to babysit every single soldier. Missed a soldier monitor though or at least couldn't find one.

Unfortunately nobody bothered to translate the Russian .pdf demo manual and Google also refused to do this.

Great tank sim. A few mods out there for it to add more playable tanks.

Its one that stays on my hard drive.

Steel Fury 1942 is an outstanding WW2 tank sim...feels more like a real WW2 war simulator. I get the feeling that my tank is part of the overall battle...I'm not the center of it, just another piece of puzzle - I really like that! I just got it 5 days ago and I have been playing since then non-stop and considering that there never was an official patch for the game I never got a single CTD or crash. There are 5 unofficial patches (add-ons/mods really) that add few things in the game. I got it from Gamers Gate and no DRM!!! It's a rock solid WW2 simulation...I'm in love. The Kharkov 1943 is a strategy game done by different development team but I think still by the same development company. I'm looking forward to the 1943 strategy game considering that I won't be getting Battlefront's Kursk game due to their crappy eLicense DRM.

I gave up on it when in the tutorial my tank decided to stop part way up a hill....couldn't get it up the hill...nothing...tried reversing and going up again...tried low gear...tried a run up...tried reversing up...nothing...couldn't get up, so shelved it.

That's easy...switch to commander's view (F3) and then simply press "W" key the driver will do the rest. You have to realize these tanks are WW2 so you need to be a bit more gentle with them. The driver will listen to your command so there isn't really need to be the driver yourself...unless the tank gets hit and the driver is KIA. To stop the tank press "q" to turn the vehicle left press "a" and to turn right press "d".

I had some issues with the tutorials as well but you don't really need to play them. Just look at the key chart and that's all you need to know.

I am interested in this title, and wonde rhow it will compare to the tow2 series that is releasing Kursk stand alone, projected fora  feb rlease date.
I did not get tow2 after the demo had tanks scaling cliffs, although this was probably a reality setting thing, just did not grab me.. I would love a remake of the battle from Normandy the Combat Mission had.. anyone see anything else on the market or horizon they would recommend?

Kharkov 42 is the best tank sim on the market, imo, and well worth investigating.

let us know what you think, I guess there are a bunch of unofficial mods/patches that you can access as well.. see the folks at simhq as well.. and the let us all know..
With TOW2 kursk and Steal Fury 43 kursk both coming out I am having a hard time buying a beautiful, but perhaps buggy karkow 42...
