Hello

Ground combat is in DW. Your transport ships carry troops to the planet and they battle it out with the defender troops. When you select the planet the invading armies and defenders are displayed in the lower left corner under Troops. The invading troops are highlighted red.

You see the battle ongoing then? How long in game years does an invasion last.Invading a whole planet should be hard and take a long time.

I would prefer to nuke from orbit but that is not in the game.

Nuking from orbit would render the planet useless for use by your empire, unless you are a race that likes a radiated wasteland.

Why do you assume it would take a long time? If your fleet has orbital dominance, then it can bombard (don't know if this is in the game) and you would probably invade a couple billion troops. You have to think in terms of a inter galactic empire not a earthly country even one as big as the US.

Who says I want their planet? Plus there are other options like Alien Flu to wipe them out.To land a couple of billion troops would not be cost effective when you could just exterminate them from space.

W...

And let's not forget the added expense of all the cocktail sauce we'd need. [:'(]

The last planet I invaded took about a month. Battles aren't shown per say, you'll just see the invading troops overtake the defenders where it shows the colony details. So on the main map click the colony and the details are shown on the lower left of the screen. I really need a screenshot. [:)]
