As the subject states. Is there anybody out there who has solved the problem of retreat hexes for custom maps? All I ask for is the darn thing appear on the side it is supposed to appear on. I only play the H2H version BTW.
Any help would be appreiciated.

this prob appears in regular pbem too... so far I've gathered that it can depend on the nationalities chosen and the year. For example M4 Jess and I had a problem with Japs vs Aussies in '46 but when set to '45 it was fine... There are a few posts about this problem elsewhere although I'm pretty sure no definite fix has turned up yet... it may not affect all custom maps... Is it one of your own?

Yes it is one of my maps that is a large 100x240. It is frustrating because of the size of battles that are usually played on the bigger maps. So you but all this work into a purchase and set up only to have the retreat hex and reinforcement hex on the wrong side. What I find funny is that not too many people seemed overly concerned about the problem which has existed for the life of the game.

hmm it sure is a tricky one, it seems to be a sporadic problem with maps rather than a consistent one... have you double checked the manual? Also the map making stuff in the hall of fame maybe? failing that maybe email / pm Wild Bill or someone... of course make a note of your purchase (for posting an aar and also to save headaches if u re-purchase) I know Jess just sets up a test game (with minimal forces) and runs it to see if it's ok first...
what about that point of the sides you chose? Are they out of their traditional time-frame or anything unusual like that?

Sometimes I am not using the traditional time frame ie 39 to 45. What is the point of having other dates available if you cannot use them. Say you wanted to play the UK against the Soviets in 1947. I have checked and read the manual as well as other threads since I have been a memboer of this forum. Sure I don't submit a post every day but there is hardly a day go by were I don't read the forum.
Thanks for your interest Hellcat. BTW if you want a copy of the last map I made I can send it to you.

have u posted it to the map contest on the scenario section?
I recommend posting a thread in the main section asking matrix about this one, I suspect there is something gone awry in the coding of setting up outside the usual timeframes or some such thing. The fact this is an intermittent fault suggests there is actually a fix / workaround for this... I didn't mean to suggest you hadn't checked the forum already, just trying to think of who or what may help with this issue which is an issue for all us pbemers. If you DO get a fix, shout loud about ok?
best
