Help with adding in new aircraft

I need some advice/ assistance with modding in some new aircraft.

I want to add in Thai Curtiss-Hawk III (BF2C-1) and Curtiss- hawk II (BFC-2)and i dont have full details on the aircraft.

I dont have any data for normal and extended range, the max range is listed as 500 NM.

Is there a rough rule of thumb to 'calculate' these vales from a max range ?

Does the endurance value actually get used in the game or is it a 'for info' field only?

I'm having trouble working out what the maneuver data in each range bracket means, i understand it reflects aircraft performance in different range brackets, but how to calculate it. Looking at various different aircraft already in the game has only caused confusion as the values for different aircraft dont seem to make much sense, to me at least.

any help would be greatly appreciated

cheers
J

Try these two places for starters

http://www.uswarplanes.net/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWII_aircraft

There are ample online links for the exact match you are looking for
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?tit ... 1%29&go=Go

You can get all your critical information from lend-lease to ship dates to armament to number producted. You can follow the links for more should you want to. I have done quite a bit of this type of research when I first got the AE and was pretty perplexed by the aircraft replacement rates across nations. It doesnt match up too well with my exisitng knowledge of the subject, but then I am pretty particular. My opponent convinced me to play it once without messing with it before we do any modding. I have additional information if desired. PM me if needed.

A good reference is aobut 66% of max for extended and 50% for normal. However, these may not be fully accurate, so finding the actual statistics for the airframe would be better.

BTW, I have added the Thai A/C types to my 'against the AI' games and they don't perform well at all. Great manuever (since they are biplanes) but poor speed. Still it is fun to see them hold their own against the British Buffaloes. [:)]

Brilliant stuff, what did you add in
Curtiss Hawk II
Curtiss hawk III
Curtiss hawk 75N
vought corsair

any others ?

Id be interested to know what maneuver ratings you used on each aircraft type ?

cheers

Range: Generally transfer range is consider at about 85% of max range, extended at 66% of max and normal at 80% of extended. If more exact data is available, this is generally used.

@ 500NM transfer would be 425nm, extended 330nm and normal 260nm RANGE not RADIUS - editor will halve figures automatically.

Endurance you can ignore.

As has been stated before, MNV is a function of wing loading and power loading. The exact formula isn't mine to disclose, sorry. Think of MNV as the ability to do conduct sustained directional changes in a three-dimensional space rather than turn radius.

Exactly those, the Corsair being the V93S version. Of those only the Hawk 75N is any good...having conflicting references, and since I only use them against the AI, I went ahead and added the 23mm Madsen cannons they possibly carried.

The Thais also had a couple of Naval small search squadrons, but these were made up of E8N Dave's which are readily available in game.

As far as the range formulas, I was unaware of the actual formula, I'm glad TimTom cleared that up.

For Manuever, I set the Hawk II/III and Corsair in the 45-48 range with the rating dropping ~6 points for each altitude band increase. In this case, it was nothing more than a somewhat educated guess along with looking at other biplane types already in the game (I-16, B4Y etc). The Hawk 75N is easy enough, simply copy the Allied Hawk 75M (its the exact same plane with a different designator for the country of purchase).

On the endurance field...

If I do have an endurance of an aircraft, but not the actual range in miles, does the endurance still work to give you a workable range, or should it be ignored completely?

So endurance no longer serves any purpose?
