Col. Schneider looked out of the small window of the low flying Ju-52 he was aboard or rather a prisoner of. He hated the **** things, planes he meant, and when he told that this was his job to people, they could not believe it. He had signed up for the airborne because it looked like an interesting part of the armed forces. He liked the training, working with his men and the planning. What he did not like was the long rides in the planes. Nevertheless, as soon as he jumped all the emotions of why he wanted to join flooded back.
Their mission was to invade Crete. The island was vital to the British war effort in North Africa. If it could be taken then the Med would essentially be in Axis hands. The German high command planned to take it from the air. For months, it had been hit by ton after ton of HE dropped from all matter of German bomber. In response, the British put all manner of AAA in place from all over their empire in an attempt to shoot down the German attack planes. Today the largest raid yet took place. Schneider hoped that it was enough to soften the British forces before his boys dropped.
As his plane swept over the beach and the island it was met his a wall of 40mm and AA machine gun fire. The planes lazily…almost clumsily flew through it and towards the drop points. A plan took a 40mm inches from it body and a huge hole was torn in its side. It kept flying but the Col. Knew that men inside must be hurt. The planes hit the drop zone and men lines up to jump. Another plane took a shell to the engine as it burst into flames. The plane dropped but regained control temporally as the men dropped then flew back towards the sea. The light came on and the men in his plane began to jump towards the earth below. Schneider leapt from the plane into a torrent of fire from the ground. He could see all matter of weapon firing at him and the men around him. All the shells were missing his men until a 40mm shell explode a few feet from one of his soldiers, the man seemed to disintegrate into a red mist and then all that was left was his parachute and his torn harnesses (one of my squads landed with 9 men and said damage of 1 on the info screen, which is how I got this idea). The Col. hit the ground in good order with his men. He set up HQ in a crater made by an earlier bomb run. It was carpeted by new plant growth and made for good cover if needed. He took a leather map out of his pocket as his men set up a radio. A courier came and told him of his men’s condition. Scattered and cut up badly. He turned to his subordinates and said, “our brothers will triumph. We will have this island in a few days time”.
Jess your in your prime this is an amzaing battle.
