wide screen support (Patch 3 beta)

Hmm using this command in game link Target:

"D:\Games\War In The Pacific AE\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -w -dual -px1440 -py900

But resulting application is still 1024x768

Tried various px and py, but game starts in 1024x768 mode. Removing -w will cause it to be fullscreen.
Using Vista and NVidia 8600M GS graphic card on my notebook.

I'm having the same issue.

Tried every combination, and can't get it out of normal 1024 768, whether it's windowed or full screen.
btw,,, i'm using XP.

Works fine here in XP on a 1440x900 laptop with a nVidia 8600. Could you post a DxDiag please and an exact copy/paste of your shortcut target line?

Hi Eric,

Don't have the DXDiags yet, but here's the command line:
"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -w -deepColor -px1280 –py800

I had the same problem in 32-bit Windows 7. I solved it by re-creating the shortcut to the exe file and re-editing the command line. Now it works exactly as advertised. Nice touch. Now tell me where me where I can get new eyes. At 1920x1080 there's a lot of detail to see.

Wide Not working? Try this!

You would never believe...

So I was having trouble at first, I played around with it for 20 minutes. Then I noticed one tiny thing. I had copied the

–px1680 –py1050 from the read-me and pasted it into my command line. No dice. Tried everything. Then, finally... revelation!

The dashes in the read-me are too long.

-px1680 -py1050 is what it should be. Works fine now!

for 1440 x 900

you need to enter -px1440 -py0900

If your monitor support x800 I imangine the -py line should be -py0800

I had gotten the full screen to work but had a problem with windowed - and your notice fixed it!

Very important to include the leading zero.

Played with it around:
1. Created new link from the original file
2. Set it up to start as Administrator
3. Set it up in WinXp compatibility
4. added zero to -py0850
5. Played with minus/hyphen signs
6. Works great with non-windowed mode
7. Windowed wide screen works with -px1440 -py0900 (altough it is bit off screen, especially the bottom where industry is located)
8. Windowed wide screen works with -px1280 - py0800 (YIPIII!)[:D]

Notice: It may work on native resolutions with x:y = 1,6. Or at least I couldnt get it work on 1360x798, 1360x0850...
Also moving -w behind -px -py parameters may helped a bit.

Exact target line:
"D:\Games\War In The Pacific AE\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -px1280 -py0800 -w -dual

Tried this but still does not want to work on an Intel GMA4500 and Win 7 32bit

Is there a description somewhere of how to get the game to run in wide screen mode?

I'm talking about a description for computer-illiterates like myself. No technical jargon. Just a step-by-step walk-through of how to get this set up.

And, to ask an equally basic question - "What would be an adequate video card to by for an old P-4 2.2 machine with 2 Gig DDR2700 RAM with onboard Video processor?" Hard drive is more than adequate and new monitor is huge, but the stretch of the game is such that it is almost unplayable..

What settings does your current card support?

Have you tried the wide screen support yet? Perhaps that stretch will go away...[;)]

Yep.  Tried almost every setting suggested, and I get the same view.  The original screen size stretched out worse that a pat of butter on Scrooges' bread. I've even re established the short cut,
retyped the settings, and anything else my feebly equipped brain could devise..

RevRick,
Getting this working depends on the settings for your video card (which you lack) and your monitor. You might check through the buttons on your monitor to find something that allows the appropriate re-sizing. If not, and you really want this, you might have to pick up a video card. You wouldn't need anything fancy or expensive, just something that supports the resolutions you want. On the other hand, you have been around here enjoying the game for a long time without this feature, so it may not be worth the effort to you. I would check through the control buttons for your monitor, however.

Well, can't believe it.

Thank you thank you thank you ChickenOfTheSea.

I had tried everything. Tried params for Full Screen, Windowed, eliminating parms but the -x and -y. Nothing.
In the end, tried ChickenOfTheSea's idea of recreating the Shortcut.

Have absolutely no idea why, but it worked. Now I have Widescreen on Fullscreen and Windowed.

I don't get it, but right now, I don't care..... IT WORKS.
