Historians: Question re USMC Engineers

Post by JWE »

We have the complete to&e charts for all USN CB Eng units and most USMC CBE units. For got to get differential tables for the G-series CEB.

Anyone having to&e tables for the USMC G-series CEB, we would appreciate much if you would forward them, by pm. Otherwise, gotta schlepp back to Pendleton. Thanks very much.

As far as I can see, there wasn't much change from the F- to the G-series TO&E's. The engineer battalion lost 29 men in total strength, adding one man to each engineer company and losing 32 from the HQ company. The latter was most likely a platoon cut from the HQ company, though I can't find which it was.

Got them Termie, schlepped back down to Pendleton yesterday, but thanks very much for giving it a shot.

Things didn't change much within the CEB line companies from D to F - couple weapons here & there and some gear. Biggie, as you note, was HQ Co. going from 35-40 to 300. Gazillion graders, dozers, cranes, all the nifty equipment was held at HQCo. level, to where it became 33% of total Bn strength and assets. Kinda like an NCB Company writ very large.

Did ya know that the prior Eng incarnation (the 12/7/41 version) to the D-Series had 4 companies, each equipped with picks and collapsible shovels and armed with Springfields and pistols? And after the Fleet Marine Force was established, many FMF units had "dining-ins" to raise money to buy commercial dozers, tractors, and long handle shovels for their engineers? Woof !!
