is there a certin amount of ships and colonies and orbials you can have? or is it infaninte?

No artificial limits to the number of ships, bases, colonies you can have in your empire. But of course, you have to be able to afford to build and maintain all of your ships and bases, and defend all of your colonies.

and will there be weapeons of mass destruction?

i dont think i have ever bin more exited about a game before

I agree with you christian199, I'm excited about the release of DW. Along the lines of "couple more things" (sorry if this is somewhere on the forum, but I didn't see it), does anyone know what the max number of AI opponents possible in a game is?

Maximum number of starting opponents is 19 (20 empires including yours). There are also numerous non-playable pirate factions that populate the galaxy. New empires can sometimes also appear during the game.

Yes, there is fog of war. You cannot see an area unless you have a presence there or have long range scanners that can see the area. Once you have explored a star system you can alway see it's planets however, even if you may not necessarily be able to see the ships and bases currently at the planet.
