As Japan, should I worry about counter-invasions in first 3 months?

I'm wondering how thin I can spread my forces. Should I really be worried about counter invasions in the first three months of the war? How much AV can the Allied player muster during this time?

I don't think you need worry 'bout that. Even if his (her?) entire land force were inserted to the Home Islands, they couldn't be supported; KB would trash any fleet that tried, and all the LCUs would eventually be lost. Raids on the other hand could be problematic, but I think the cost would still be prohibitive. Don't forget, because it costs PPs to move certain LCUs from the Home Islands, you will under any circumstances have strong LCUs of your own readily available.

I dont think there is a realistic threat deep inside the empire at the beginning. At any one or two locationa on the outer rim, an aggresive allied player can and will make counter-invasions early. I would not expect any to hold, not that you wont have to deal with them. As stated above the Jap main carrier force is something to avoid if aggregated together. Few allied players will want to engage it unsupported by massed land-based air.

Feb '42, got a division of troops prepped for Tokyo, 3CV support, every available battlewagon in the fleet... gonna see how far I make it.
Did I mention that one of my CV's is the Nimitz with a full compartment of F14's?

The Skipper said he had never seen a storm quite like that one!

I'd recommend getting your F14s out of their compartment and putting them on deck. [:'(]
Better yet, have 'em fly CAP. If you're going near the HI, you'll need them!

But remember, Japan can not use Kamikazies in 1942...You are homefree with the Nimitz.
And finally, working US torpedoes!

I always wondered how well the Nimitz's signal processing software would do with large numbers of planes operating at WWII speeds and made out of WWII materials. Was it optimised for the attack profile of a dive-bomber...?
More seriously, if you're the kind of Japanese player who likes to expand as far and fast as possible you'll no doubt find that an active opponent can clobber one or two of your SNLFs or parachute units. He won't be capable of countering either your land-based air or the KB, and for that matter doesn't have enough to fight your surface navy head on when it's concentrated. So the answer is maybe, a bit, but only if you're aggressive and tend to push ahead of your naval and air cover. At least for the first two to three months.

Land Combat Units. Shorthand for any unit from an anti-tank gun unit to a full division.
IRT Mark, CIWS would have no problems here, but I'm not so sure about the other systems.

Of course you should worry about counter-invasions... Any Allied player worth their salt is going to look for opportunities to take out some Japanese forces. With that said the ALlies are only able to "nibble around the edges" at this stage so while you should bear in mind the risk to your perimeter you don't really have to worry about much else.

That's the opposite of what I wanted to hear. [:(]

Well, sadly, life's a bitch [:D]
Good recon can do a hell of a lot to reduce the risk though. With KB hidden very few Allied players will push an invasion if it is spotted more than 2 days from debarkation.
P.s. Based on your location. Best wishes to you and all out there with you.

unless you really spead your forces out, which is not what you want to do as Japan in the early months, a smart allied player will find ways to ambush you somewhere. It is a large map after all. Just keep up a decent search pattern and you should get some warning. One of my opponents got in a great raid on my northern area, sneaking in and attacking several of my cargo convoys in northern waters off Japan. he didn't linger long though[:D] as he knew a reaction was coming if he stayed. It is a risk/reward situation and if you want ot cover the weak areas you will not have the force you need to expand the perimeter, which is what you want to do.
