Distant Worlds for Starcraft 1 and 2 as like the epic, strategic space portion.
Distant Worlds is a 4Ex space strategy, epic space opera game.
I think that if you like Starcraft 1 and 2 then you will like Distant Worlds as like the epic, strategic space portion of Starcraft.

Well, I love 4x space strategy games, but cannot stand RTS clickathons. Can't see what enjoyment people get from them. Did you know to be competitive online in Starcraft 2 you need to be able to do up to around 400 (i think) Key/click strokes per minute, talk about repetitive strain injury. But each to their own!

Yeah GENERIC C&C clone (Why are they generally called as C&C clones when Dune 2 refined the whole RTS genre before C&C? Ah dunno

) RTS games shouldn't be called RTS cause there's no strategy at all involved

I sort of agree with you, and sort of don't. I have not really enjoyed the C&C series as much because of their shallow strategic elements. That is why I prefer Supreme Commander, which is the best rts has to offer.
Drillerman has a great point though that the RTS genre is all about cpm (click per minute). Which can be annoying at times.

Yeah, I didn't mean games such as Supreme Commander or battles for example in Total War series, but rather the generic RTS genre games such as C&C serie, Starcraft, Warcraft etc. So, from what I understand what you said, you agreed with everything, just possibly misunderstood my generalization

Why are people still so immature even on 4x games forums that they feel forced to HATE HATE ZOMG every single other game as if they are threatening this game?
Starcraft 1 and 2 are amazing amazing games, the best RTS games of all times, just because you have to click more than once per minute doesnt make them mindless clickfests that have no substance or enjoyment.
If you've seen more than 2 progames of Starcraft you'd realize that yourself. And dont bring the C&C games into this, they are nothing like Starcraft.
Distant Worlds is looking to be amazing too, in a different slower paced way. Why the hell does everyone have to LOVE 1 game and HATE every other game? Grow up, expand your views ^_^
By the way, i would LOVE to see a Starcraft mod for this game, with the Zerg, Protoss and Terrans battling in an epic grand scale universe version of SC

I doubt for anyone of us its about hate per se, but its the word STRATEGY which doesn't quite fit those kind of games..
I haven't played Starcraft 2 but first one was good, it didn't exactly bring anything new to the genre but it was prime example of finetuning and polishing and worked fine to boot! Also calling Starcraft as nothing like C&C is starcraft fanboyism really.. it is C&C through and through gameplay wise, don't look at the story nor the setting, just the way it plays.
Also none of my comments were attack against Starcraft which you valiantly defend. I'm glad there's different kind of games for us all, would be boring otherwise, right?

Because they need someone to feel superior to. Imagining that the entire RTS genre relies on nothing more than rapid clicks of the mouse and that only they are the ones smart enough to see that makes them better than the people who play and enjoy those games.
It's a patently ridiculous statement that strategy somehow doesn't apply in those games just because you aren't in charge of a galaxy or can't pause it whenever you need a few moments to ponder.
Elitism infests every forum. [8|]

I think that the playstyles are fundamentally different, so much so that real Starcraft 2 fanatics would think Distant Worlds is a ponderous and overwhelming experience. From what I have been reading on Rock, Paper, Shotgun regarding Starcraft 2 Beta, multiplayer matches literally take 15 minutes, and ever SECOND counts with the pros - build order, moving harvesters, queuing units, etc. The guys over there were saying that playing Starcraft 2, at least at the pro-level, is an exercise in muscle memory - will your fingers remember to hit the right buttons at the right speed at the right moment. In some ways, this is like the skill needed in an arcade game (they actually compare it to a fighting game, like Street Fighter) rather than the overarching strategic thinking of games like Supreme Commander 2, AI War, or SupCom 1. Again, that is in the echelon of the competitive level multiplayer matches, so normal SC2 playing will not be this rigorous, but I think you get the point.
Distant Worlds has a positively "stately" rhythm in comparison. That isn't to say that people who like RTS (myself included) won't like DW - but I think it is going to really appeal to fans of the pure 4X genre, mixed with people who like games like Europa Univeralis, Supreme Ruler 2020, War in the Pacific, and others. Overarching strategic planning is KEY in DW, unlike the "reaction and response" model of high-speed RTS like the C&C, Warcraft, and Starcraft series (please note, I am not denigrating any of these game series - I like them a lot - but they are less about grand strategy - like SupCom - than about reacting and responding on-the-fly to the moves of your enemies).
However, I absolutely think, if you are a huge Starcraft fan, you should mod DW to include Starcraft ships and races! But you will have to do it for personal use only, because if you try to distribute such a mod, free or otherwise, Activision-Blizzard WILL shut you down.

I'm going to lock this one up, just because of the way it's been heading. Let's focus on DW as its own game.
