Hi all,
I'm about to buy this painting and just wanted you guys to look at the carrier. Wouldn't want to buy something for a lot of money and then find something ahistorical [:)] Any help appreciated.
Cheers
Dan

it sure looks good. Did IJN carriers really had such a flag painted on their flight deck during the war?

I checked the Tamiya website (which prides itself many times on its accuracy), recalling somewhere that, no, they did not paint the flag but a big circle. Lo and behold, no flag.

The Rising Sun was painted on the carrier decks for the Midway Operation; It is the Akagi. Pic looks realistic enough to me.

There's a colour picture of the Akagi on this

Yes, or course. I should have indicated this was the paint scheme for the Pearl Harbor attack.

It is Akagi. However, I have never seen a picture of Akagi with the giant meatball painted on the forward flight deck.

Could that be a flag on the flight deck?

First time I've seen that picture, and sure enough, there seems to be a giant red meatball on the forward flight deck.
