3 day, 2 day or 1 day turns

I have been using 3 day turns against the AI in full campaign games, 1 day turns in the smaller scenarios AI and pbem.

The majority of players seem to like 1 day turns.

Are there any disadvantages to using 3 day turns?

Well I think they are just different breed. Its nearly another game.

2 and more so 3 day turns bring add a huge random/chance factor to the game.
Its both, increasing the value of strategical decisions made by the player and adding a higher luck factor because you
have up to 3 days until you can react to a change of situation.
Also the games progress faster.

Against a human a 3 games turn is extremely hard to play IMO but two are probably the way to go if you are playing PBEM
because of game lenght and ppl who did it seldom return to 1 day turns.

The game is best at 1 day turns we all know that

BUT how will you finish a PBEM ? You may not live that long - it is possbile :)
In one of my games a guy got married , had a baby then gave up the game because he was getting divorced its that long a game at one day turns

I am looking at starting a campaign at two day turns , if you use retire orders , way points etc it can be done

I've played both 2 day and 1 day turns. At first I liked 1 day turns better because you have better reaction time, but in terms of overall game play, the game is so long that I now strongly prefer 2 day turns to maintain a good pace of gameplay. Additionally, many of the constraints imposed by 2 day turns (slowing down offensives because you can't constantly give orders) actually probably results in a more realistic pace.

Never tried 3 day turns, but my impression is that 2-day turns is probably the best compromise between reaction time and game pace.

By playing 3-day turns you help out the AI also. The AI treats a 3-day turn like 3 consecutive 1-day turns, which means it can react to situations at the end of each day, where the human player can only react to at the end of the
3-day pulse. So, as a human player, you must live with your operational orders while the AI fights a slightly more tactical war. That coupled with a more reasonable time frame to finish a campaign makes this the best option, IMO.

Oh Contraire!

You can finish a 1 day turn AE PBEM game. It certainly isnt going to happen fast, but it can be done. My personal experience with WITP is that it took around 20 months to do a complete game with 1 day turns. AE seems to be going just a bit slower due to the bigger set of orders needed. I will concede such a game isnt for the feint of heart, but I do not like the combat outcomes in 2 and 3 day cycle games.
