In my unprofessional opinion...

If you are still in traditional mud turns (oct), then your situation is possibly not as dire as you think. You need to worry about the 2-3 potential snow turns (nov/dec) that the Wermacht can use to inflict more damage and drive on the prize. I'm not sure where you are in this game date wise, but keep in mind all those panzer korps are at half strength in either supply or man power if you are in mud. Now is the time to quickly reorganize, bring up what air power you can, and commit some more reserves where you aren't overstacked. Focus on the NW (Kalinin) and SW defenses of Moscow. The easy way to swing the panzers toward Moscow are in these two spots. That is where he will try to exploit you I think. As far as Lenningrad, are the Finns attacking as well? You should try to draw some blood in this sector, if not to force him to keep troops there to deal with you if the city falls. As far as Rostov, use the river as your defense, wait him out til bizzard, and hit him with shock armies and what mobility you can hard all along that line running to Kharkov if he ventures east of the city even a hex or two. More than anything, General Winter might save you. If he is allowed to form up multiple korps just west, NW, and SW of Moscow in snow (not blizzard) turns, you could be toast.

This was meant to be attached to Preuss and "Situation Desperate." Der Mensch (I don't mean der geist von Hans Hube) is always looking in my DSL work world...

A turn or two later...more rain after snow...he still stands in front of Moscow..and much of my forces are still cut off. In the last snow turn he made his line contigous in front of Moscow.
The corps in Moscow must have taken a pounding, because it's readiness was down to 11-9% in most units. Most of these were rotated out, and fresh divisions with 30%-50% readiness filling their shoes.
In a counterattack commanded by a re-instated Zhukov... (his family has been brought to Moscow and is resting comfortably in the Lubyanka, under the watchful eye of Leverenti Beria, pending further developments)...For Soviet corps were commanded to attack a German infantry Korps in their midst. Three of the corps made a successful attack, causing the German corps to shatter. The fourth corps attacked west instead of east.
General Zhukov, mopping a sweaty brow while in conference with Uncle Joe, Blames the failure of the fourth corps to attack in the proper direction on General Rhosdestvensy, grandson of the Tsarist who led the Russian navy to humiliating defeat at Tshushima. In the general's words (zhukov's) "I fear, comrade Stalin, that many anti-proletariat generals still serve in our ranks."
At this, Comrade Stalin raised a caterpillarlike eyebrow and took a heavy drag from his pipe, stating "Well, General Zhukov...if the fascisti are not driven from the Rodina soon...you and your family may soon find out how many enemies of the state there are...as you work alongside them in the lead mines!"
Sweating like a lathered horse, General Zhukov returned to Moscow front to redouble his efforts.
