Did they fix the old unit leader transfer bug?

so I was looking into my old WitP info and deciding if I should play again when low and behold I find a new version, the admirals edition. Yay. Before I can buy I need to setup some stupid verification thingy for visa so I thought I'd see if the bug that made me stop playing WitP is still around.
The bug I'm talking about is the one where over time unit leaders would warp around back and forth between US and Japanese forces. I was a year or two into the campaign and I had a bunch of American ships being captained by Japanese captains. A large part of the fun I had in this game was tracking down the actual historical land, air, and sea units and seeing where they were positioned in reality compared to where I had ended up putting them, and having American units commanded by Japanese leaders really killed the game for me.
At the time it was an old and ongoing bug and there were no plans to fix it, so I stopped playing.
Is this bug still around? Thanks for reading.
