It´s a soundcard driver problem.

Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for your soundcard.

If that doesn´t help, then deactivate the soundcard, reboot, and reactivate it. For some reason that solved the problem.

Well, I have received UV this very afternoon and after trying unsuccessfully to play it, all I can say is that I am very annoyed.
I bought UV because I am a Grisby fan since the Apple II times and also because I purchased Desert Fox and am very satisfied with it.
Now this. While attempting to run UV I get the same message indicated above, and as my motherboard has the sound incorporated, I don´t know from where to download which drives. Now, did I pay about $ 55. to have to make adjustements in a game that doesn´t use 3D graphics or any other sophistication?
I bought the game to spend my time playing, not searching through my hardware. All the other games and of course, professional software, works fine, why UV doesn´t?
This is the sound device I have installed, in case you can giveme a better solution:

C-Media PCI Audio Legacy Device

Hope you can help me with, this, thank you.

@ Panta. How did you buy your PC from? I ask because they should be able to tell you how to update your sound card driver. Or if all you did was buy a new motherboard please contact the people you bought the mother board from & ask them about an updated sound card driver.

Did you try the solution suggestion provided? Unfortunatley you have to expend some effort ensuriing your computer is configured properly for the game to work.

You can also try turning hardware acceleration off on your soundcard.

NO GAME works universally on 100% of computers right out of the box.

Last thing I did last night before going to bed was to find and download a driver for my sound card, install it and after that the game worked smoothly. I had pleasant dreams.
I didn´t need to do it for my other games: Desert Fox-SPWAW-Tacops-BCT-Decisive Action, et al. Falcon 4 works perfectly without it, and I still don't understand why to make things harder for the gamers without a clear reason. After all, UV supposed to be players know that it is not a shooter-game. What I expected to have was an improved version of Pacific War (a game I also have) with better graphics and interface. As far as I could briefely see, the game has all that and probably more. So, why risking incompatibilities with such secundary aspects (IMHO) as sound? I knew how to find the driver (though not where to find it) as advised, and was able to follow all the necessary steps but, is it the case of all customers experiencing the same problems?
On the other hand, I got the impression that the game is simply great and probably beyond my expectations. A very positive aspect of my experience is that the forum help was almost instanstaneous and of course, adequate.
Thanks for the support.

Well if my only problem is not posting replies properly . . .
It was soundcard. Guillemot MaxiSound Muse, even after driver update, no go. Reverted to original on-board sound, and no problems. Thank You. Cover ME !! I'm Going In!!!!:D
