micro-management in future

This is no complaint, just a wish [:)] - maybe I'm the only one with this wish, but here it is:
I really like micro-management, so I'm not that happy to see, that this game 'only' has macro-management.
I know the game is not out yet, so speaking of the future is maybe out of place, but is it possible that you will produce an expansion, where micro-management could be a possibility to choose. I would like to control anything on the colonies, something like in Alien Crossfire
Less would also do it [;)]

As I understand it, Distant Worlds has the automation controls that allows you to selectively control or automate any micro or macro management parts of the game. If you so desire, there apparently is much micro management. But, as you say, there probably isn't "down on planet" control of every indididual structure on the planets.

I think the scale of the game is important here, I think it would be close to impossible to have total micro-management when you have 1000's of colonies to tend to, fleets to manage and upgrade, new systems to explore, resources to mine etc etc.

This is not the game for Civ style city building that most space 4X games copy,and I find dull.Politics,tech,design,exploring is where the fun is in my view.

It's all about looking around, taking what you're strong enough to take, holding what you've taken, buying new toys and starting all over again.....

I will not use words like 'dull', it is just sooo boring, but I hate games, where you just repeat the same again and again, so more options are always welcome.

I'm a diehard Micro manager too. So jnpoint I'm rowing right along side of you. [:)]
I'm hoping there's plenty of things to manipulate to My Desires. I've fought ViceRoys before and I've won. [;)]

I'd say most of Paradox's "Grand Strategy" RTSes are quite light on micromanagement, except possibly Victoria.
But they're also great a diplomacy, politics etc.
And with the most recent entry(Hearts of Iron 3 that came out last year) they also have the complete control to automate how much or how little you like.

Hearts of Iron 3 is buggy game. Wait for expansion or for big patch. Now this is waste of time and money.
But I agreewith Gargantou. Europa Universalis series is worth playing.

If you want to control everything yourself there's still plenty of micro-management to be had. Just set all the automation options to manual control and you're doing everything yourself.
But the big plus of Distant Worlds is that you don't HAVE to do everything - instead you can focus on the game play areas that you enjoy the most.

But I agreewith Gargantou. Europa Universalis seriesĀ is worth playing.
To be fair, all Paradox games have been buggy at release, it generally comes with making really ambitious games.
I'd be surprised if DW didn't have its share of notable bugs, no offense intended towards you elliot(I'm just saying there's no such thing as a bug-free strategy game that I can think off!)
I tend to buy games like HoI3, or this week, DW, at release, even if they might be very buggy.
Why? Because the more people that buy the game the likelier it is that it will get good post-release support.
Anyway elliot, personally I am of great gratitude to you for implementing the automation that you have, if it weren't for it I'd probably not get DW since I don't have the time to spend months in a game to micromanage every single individual transport etc!
And hopefully it'll also be good for both you and the rest of the crew financially since it will make the game a lot more accessible to newcomers.

yes, we do have different point of views - the big PLUS for me is that I apparently CAN choose to do everything [:)] and thats why I probably will buy the game!

For everybody who love micro-management just wait for next service pack for Windows, play WITP/WPO or... wait for planned DW expansion: "Micro-management - for people with absolutely no life". [:D]
I agree with Webbco. If you colonize 5000 planets you will be glad that this game is only MACRO.

Except, the game isnt out yet, so we dont know if it excels in politics, diplomacy and strategy.
For all we know (so far), the game AI might suck so much that diplomacy is pointless, and strategy could just boil down to "blob those ships on that planet".
[:D] I'm just saying, lets hold the praise til we've actually played this before declaring that its superior to any other game.

As Elliot said, Distant Worlds can run the whole spectrum from "full micro-management" to "no micromanagement", it's all up to how you set your options.
