So basically the dev lied.

"it runs much better than in the videos" "it was recorded on an old laptop" beta testers: "oh yeah it runs great, smooth as butter!"

Basically, its unplayable. When you have 1-second stutter for every stage of zooming out or in, in a game where the thing you do the most is zoom out or in, its unplayable. This is Space Empires V all over again, how can someone manage to make a 2d game stutter so much is beyond me, and dont say its because of all the cpu calculations in the background, because this stuttering persists even when the game is paused.

Sounds more like a vid card problem or DirectX setup.

Should probably post this in the Tech Support thread up top.

Yeah, that sounds like a vid card. Do you have the latest drivers?

Good Hunting.

1 second between screen updates when zooming certainly sounds excessive - that's not the typical experience. You should investigate your video card drivers.

In the meantime you can also use the shortcuts to different zoom levels: - Home key - zooms to 100% - Insert key - zooms to system level - Delete key - zooms to sector level - End key - zooms to galaxy level

For you maybe. Runs nice and smooth on my laptop.

Try these settings, Turn off nebulae clouds, Star density all the way left, zoom speed all the way right. There will be no delay with DW setup like this at least on my computer there is zero delay. There should be very little delay with the stock settings, certainly not unplayable.

If you still have delay try updating your video drivers, sound drivers, etc..

With a Geforce 8800 GT, can you set the system Nebulae Detail on High then? I'm using 1600x1050 resolution too.

Got absolutely no issue, I zoom in/out all the way in less than 1 sec ... But sure I have a fast system - Asus G73 w/Mob 5870 GPU [8D] !

That's the main video card I tested this game with. It works very good. "Smooth as butter." [;)]

I use the medium nebulae setting.

Definitely something going wrong on your system, Baleur, that's not how the game plays elsewhere. Please try the suggestions here, update your drivers and see if any of that helps.

Wow. A lot depends on having .net and DirectX installed correctly, having the latest drivers installed, turning off virus protection, maybe turning off firewalls, and having a stable system before installing. Your system is not a high end system. Good for you! [:)]

Intel GMA 950, thats a laptop? :) I wonder if DW would run on my minilaptop... though 11,5" screen might be a lil bit too small :D

Yes, an Acer Aspire 5610. Though, I did a lot of tweaking to the system to squeeze out as much performance as possible.

that defo sounds as though something is eating either your cpu or memory in the background. check with task manager and see what is using the cpu let us know what it says
