Ever try to count all the stars in the sky? Don't. Scientists recently announced that there may be a billion (that's with a "b") more stars out there than they originally thought.

I'm almost inclined to believe its a near infinite number to be honest.
Remember, everything we can observe is (so far?) limited to a sphere extending from our point of view, 14 billion light years away since the big bang.
Including that everything we see on the "edge" is ancient, its really hard to have a proper idea about how the universe looks right NOW (as in today), or how vast it is.

Like if everything in a radious around our home town was seen as it was 1000 years ago, we'd have no idea that the rest of the planet is filled with equal and greater cities than the one we're looking from
Nor have any clue what so ever about something as far off as other planets.

lol it kinda makes me think about that Men In Black thing with the marble galaxies. The sick thing is that if we were living in a "marble" being tossed around by some other beings, we'd have no friggin way to view outside the 14bn-lightyear-border.

I view the whole exercise as when men thought the earth was flat because that was the perception they had from the view they were using at the time.
