First proper game, started out in a medium spiral galaxy with 9 other races, a bit aged and spread out while i started from scratch.
No biggie, they were all pretty friendly. Then my advisors suggest declaring war on the badger-people ;(
"Our fleet is standing by, lets attack their planet!" um, okay i suppose [:D]

Biig mistake, broken fleet, a 15 ship attack on MY homeworld (i only had another puny colony, this was within 30min), as well as leaving all my mining outposts in ruins.
This is as far as i got LOL, my system is the light brown one in the middle surrounded by the ancient races [:(]
While im talking about colors, the light brown and dark brown are way too similar, and i was kinda sad that white wasnt available as a primary color.
(custom background image btw, since i hated the original one. modded it before i started playing lol)

Glad to see the AI is working Baleur [;)] Maybe your advisors were a bit over-eager.

Nice background galaxy image too - looks cool. How big is that image pixel-wise?

Its 2000x2000, same as the normal one :)
Manually blurred it a bit, otherwise the native "stars" in the background would be a bit too confusing XD

Yes, I would say that was questionable "advice". Always check it against your own evaluation before accepting their suggestion and we'll see if we can tweak that a bit further. I know they evaluate a number of factors right now, but I'd say in your case they must have been feeling extremely aggressive.

And I agree, nice background mod, you should zip it up and post it in the mod sub-forum!

With a race we play, does its aggresiveness or recklessness statistics have anything to do with such advisor recommendations?

Yes, that does influence your advisors as far as I know.

HEY, i know! [:'(] [:-]

I watched the Sid Meier GDC keynote a few days ago, where he talked about how important he felt it was making the player feel like they are amazing players even when they suck (thereby resulting in dumbing the games down, though he obviously didnt use those words). It ended up with big elaborate examples of how his Civilization Revolution (you know that crappy console-civilization version) testers were too dumb to accept losses when fighting battles on a 3 to 1 chance.
So eventually, they dumbed it down so much as to remove the % completely, rather implementing an algorithm that would heavily favor the player units, basically giving a 100% chance for victory if you lost a unit in the previous turns.

Im so glad that all developers dont follow this mindset, but rather has the courtesy to expect their players to be somewhat intelligent.
Im glad i got my butt kicked in this game :)

Kind of makes sense though that it assumes you want to punch people in the face when playing a war-oriented race :)

Perhaps the advisor's recommendations improve as one gains "intelligence" - via diplomacy, observation, espionage - and have some statistics?

LOL.

Yeah. Baleur, that makes some sense...since you were playing as Sluken. I wonder if you could have accomplished more in your attck if you used an excellent grand strategy involving many approaches including espionage/sabotage.

Of course, there's not much you can do if your enemy's technological level far surpasses you.
