First, let me say this is just a minor grouse ... love, love, love the game.
That said, when my CAP loses a pilot to a raid coming from 9 hexes away (the closest Japanese base) and that pilot is captured, all I can is shake my head. Makes zero sense to me.

Unfortunately, it's made zero sense for a long time. Better than it was in WitP.

In one of JuanG's scenarios with a CV starting at PH, I had the CV sunk in the Dec 7 attack. Many of the aircrew from the CV got captured as it went down. Forced aboard minsubs at gunpoint or scooped up from the water with a net from low flying aircraft no doubt[:D][:D].

well, the game rutines run without respect to the actuallization of the environment, so... to fix I would postulate that a game rrutine would have to be tweeked, and often small corrections have un intended non desirable results...
BUT we could lobby for these strange results to be looked at for future fixes, but they are so very minor comparedd to the game enders like frag bug etc.. good luck with your pow rescue mission rutines..
OR
the Bridge in Burma builder rutine, my fav add on for fantasy AE! lol

Can't the routine look at hex ownership in determining whether a pilot can be captured or not? Or at least if ground forces are present in the hex and/or the current owner of the base in the hex?
It's silly for pilots bailing out over Los Angeles to be captured by the Japanese...

It does look at location and ownership of nearest AF to determine chance of rescue.
Even so, it still is random.
By the look of the code, the 'captured by enemy' is the drop-through when over a friendly AF.
If I change it, you will still lose the pilot as the next drop-through would be 'killed'.

Your pilot is MIA - this doesnt mean that he is captured, it means he is missing. Nobody saw his airplane go down, maybe he landed in the jungle, maybe in the sea...
