Game seems to run fine and I get sound effects but no music after the opening movie. Volume for music is same as setting for sound effects. Anyone ??

I can play the music in the music file with media player.

What version of Windows are you running?

What version of Windows Media Player do you have?

Have you used the in-game editor at all?

Erik:

No I haven't touched the editor. As I said in the original post, I can go to the music file and play the music but it doen't run with the game.

I do get the "change theme" screen when the game starts, but the change theme button is not activated. I can't change from the default theme even if I wanted to.

ORIGINAL: Johnnie XP service pack 3. Media Player 9.
Your issue may be related to a known bug in Windows Media Player versions 9 and 10 on Windows XP.

If you are willing, I would recommend upgrading to Windows Media Player 11 or later. This may resolve your issue with music not playing.

Thanks, but that just does not make sense. I never, ever had a problem with Media Player (this version) and I can play the music if I go to the file. I never heard of Media Player 9 & 10 not working with XP. They have gone together for years and years. Also, am I the only one running DW with Media Player 9 and XP ? Thanks again, but that can't be it.

I uninstalled and started over from scratch. Still no joy.

This is actually a known issue when using Windows Media Player from another application (e.g. DW) to play music files (only for Media Player version 10 or older on Windows XP). It has nothing to do with normal playing of files through Windows Media Player by itself.

Microsoft has not fixed this issue. The only solution is to upgrade Media Player to version 11 or later. Take a look here if you want the nasty technical details: http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/374363/system-windows-media-mediaplayer-only-plays-sounds-once-in-windows-xp

The link you supplied discussed a situation where the music played once but not again. Mine hasn't played at all. Yet my sound effects are fine. Aren't the sound effects played with Media Player ??

This machine is 3 or 4 years old and I have over the years installed maybe 50-60 wargames on it. The music played on ALL of them. I'm no expert, but sometimes one knows what is NOT the problem.

Anyhow, I appreciate your responses. And if I can't get the music to play, I'll run a favorite playlist in the background.

Hmm, is it possible there could be an audio codec issue? Games like X3 and some others I got are very sensitive to certain audio codecs. [&:]

Do you install right over the existing Media Player ? Does it mess up your existing playlists, etc. ?? Thanks.

I never used media player for music. To me it's just a lump on the hard drive, like internet explorer :D

Against my better judgment, I went and installed Media Player 11. Lo and behold the music plays fine. It also seems to have imported my library from my previous version of Media Player so all is well with my playlists, etc..

You were right and I was wrong (and pig-headed.) Thank you.

Thanks also Tormodino.

Glad you got it going Johnnie. It's a frustrating bug, and I wish there was a better way to resolve it. Good thing your old playlists are fine.
