Space Port Income

Hi guys,

I am playing my 4th game at the moment, and each time i've played everything has been going well until without warning my income has tanked. I've been able to pin it down to my space port income. At one point it was at 41k and now its droped to 1k. The only thing I can think of was the addition of 2 small space ports at the fringe of my empire (21 cols) that has somehow borked my space port income. I'm trying to fix by removing them and re-building with larges but... time will tell.

Any thaughts on space port incoming dropping and how to fix would be welcomed.

Wilko

Did you check out Elliot's war room economy tips? I have yet to implement them, however I think they will make the difference.

Space Port income can be quite variable as it's based on events rather than a set flow of money. For example, if the private sector decides that it needs to build more freighters, your space port income will go up. If they decide that they don't need any ships for a while, it will go down. The tax base from other revenue tends to even this out, but there will still be some swings.

What we are investigating right now is some possible economic issues related to luxury resource distribution that seem to be affecting some games. The economic tips in the War Room sub-forum should help though, as if you don't over-build and over-extend any of these dips or swings are manageable and recoverable while more colonies come up to a good development level. Once you get over that "hump" of one main world supporting multiple developing colonies, the economy should become much easier to manage.

Thanks for the info there Erik, I see what you mean. My empire's private industry is fairly well built and checking my yards only a handfull of private ships are being constructed.

On your other issue, happy to test or provide save games for referance if you believe it would help.

Hi Erik, I see you actually managed to turn the economy around on someone else's saved game where their empire wasn't doing so well, did mine have the same issues and could things be reversed? If so maybe I could elect you as governor in my empire..."Change we can hope for" [:D]

Feel free to upload a save (see the tech support forum for instructions on how).

We think we've resolved the distribution issue here, but we will be testing it against the saves we have to make sure.

The first save that I turned around, 99% of the problem was over-building and over-expansion. In your save, I'd say only 33% of the problem was over-building, the rest was the luxury resource distribution issue. Your save was actually the first one that allowed me to see that in action and figure out what was going on (thanks also to Jim's hint on that). Elliot has since confirmed that there was an issue and we think it's fixed. I'd say hang on just a bit longer and we should have an update for you all to try.

If you take your save and scale back a bit on the ships/bases and other things needing upkeep, switch your taxes back to automatic for now and let it run, it will eventually recover but it may take longer than you want.

2 games in and I've had to abandon both because my revenue tanked and wouldn't come out of it.

Last nights game I let it run for an hour in the red. My Balance was -32K, and Monthly (the smaller # in ( ) under it) was -12K. So I went into game editor and gave my empire 140K. I had 4 colonies at that time (400 star galaxy- 4AI- Eliptical). I bought 2 colonies (for cash and tech and maps), 1 from the Sulken and another from a second insect race.
I refused every "Suggestion-We need to build 1 explorer, x 3 escorts, etc.'' to save money. I did pay Pirates for protection  as my fleet was the smallest in the galaxy.
I had built 2 Large spaceports and 1 medium.

And I still ran out of money. The Sluken demanded their Colony back. I said No. And so they declared war.

How can you fight a war when your broke?

Even cheating by giving my empire 140k only lasted so long. And with 4 quadrants explored I only had 6 colonies with 2 of them bought, not found. Rather disturbing.

I tried to leave everything on auto. But when home planet tried to rebel I did take over the taxes. My 3 "founded" colonies were Happy faces but the highest tax rate was 15% and that planet did get unhappy till I lowered it's taxes to 13%. he other 2 were still developing and only had 7 and 3% respectively.

Economy is rough.

Making sure Mining stations are going after "needed" resources and Luxury resources seems impossible to do (as it's in the Private sectors hands so how do I nudge them along?).

This games learning curve is as Hard/Steep as MoO3's was. (I did figure MoO3's out eventually ;P )

And no I didn't save the game when I quit at 1:00am this morning. If there was an Auto Save then I could've sent it in to be looked at.

Joseph,

The economy should become easier once we release the first update as we did find a luxury resource distribution issue and we think that has been fixed. I'm sorry this has hit some games so hard, we'll get the update out ASAP, try not to get burned out before then.

I'm a stubborn Missouri Mule. [;)] So I'll stick with it for awhile longer.

I spent over an hour in the Tutorials alone.

I tried starting small and that may have been counter intuitive for this game. Actually made it harder to succeed.

Maybe the key to a good start is going Big?

Guess I need to go give it a try, huh!

How soon before I try to Update for this Luxury fix?
