Printing of Manual

I just spent almost two hours at my local Kinkos this evening to get the manual and map printed. BTW, I installed the game (all went well).

This morning I copied the manual, icon, and map PDF files on to a ZIP disk. Each of the files opened okay with Acrobat Reader 5.0.

I took the disk to Kinkos and they were able to print only to page 27. They printed the colored map for me and it came out just fine. Likewise, the manual cover in color was okay.

After 27 pages, the print job halted and the final page contained the following:

ERROR: limitcheck
OFFENDING COMMAND: save

STACK:

-savelevel-
-savelevel-
-savelevel-
-savelevel-
-savelevel-
-savelevel-
-savelevel-
-savelevel-
-savelevel-
-savelevel-
-savelevel-
-savelevel-
-savelevel-

They then spent almost an hour trying to get past page 27. They could do so on screen but it just wouldn't print. I suggested splitting the print job into multiples print jobs, but that didn't work either. They also rebooted and started over at least twice. Still no go. Somewhat later, they went to "another" PC but had the same results. Bummer.

I was thinking perhaps a PC memory issue, sanity check or perhaps a corrupted file. I also thought that maybe the manual file was "protected" or otherwise restricted by something. Perhaps I had to have the CD itself too?

I'll dump the manual file tonight and copy the file again.

Any ideas?

THere is nothing in the file that should prevent printing. Were they using the latest version of acrobat?

Could there have been a corruption of the file?

Good question re. version of Acrobat. I don't know. While I could see that the pages were showing up on the screen, the monitor was about 10-12 feet from the front desk and turned side-on. So I couldn't see anything else running on the PC. While I wanted to jump over the counter and get on the machine myself, they don't allow customers into the work area behind the counter. I finally had to go sit down because my staring at them (politely) wasn't helping.

I'll give it another try tomorrow. Probably try Office Depot.

Thanks.

I had this exact same problem at my local Kinko's. It turns out that the image on Page 27 (Section 8.7) would not print and it crashed in the exact mode described above.

Now they were able to print the rest of the manual from that point on (image on page 35 - Section 8.12 also did not print, but did not cause print job to crash). They were not able to get page 27 to print with the image.

I also was able to print the page (with the image) at home on my Brother laser printer (of course the UV was solid black :D) no problem. And, just to check, I printed off of the CD-R that I had burnt with the copy of the manual.pdf file on it (so it doesn't look like the file was corrupted during the cd-burn).

I had the exact same problem. I upgraded to the latest version of acrobat reader and it fixed the problem.

If the UV is black you are not using the lastest acrobat.

Many thanks for the information. I will mention the problem with page 27 and 35 when I try another visit to Kinko's today. I'll also mention that they will need the latest Acrobat.

I'll try printing page 27 & 35 separately.

Good News!

I took the manual PDF file to another Kinko's today and the manual printed just fine. I think the problem may relate to the other Kinko's computers and operator headspace rather than the file itself. It happens.

Current Adobe Reader

I've got Adobe Reader 5.0, which I think is the most recent version, and I'm getting the black UV across every page. Is there some way to print the manual?

make sure (as has been said several times) "Print as image" is checked so the watermark is printed as such...

Yep, happens. I was beginning to wonder myself and so I printed the "doomed page" on 6 different printers now. Printed as bitmap and not. It worked on all of them without a problem.
