Whats up with the economy for pete sake

My economy is just floping for no dam reason. So When It flops I decided to get rid of Ships to get maintance down. The problem is the minute I get maintance down, the dam tax revenue drops with it. Its like the game wants me to keep losing a certain amount of money.

My Explorer ships are no longer finding any new planets and I have 10 of the dam things out and about. Can't fix the economy at all at this point.

Have a black hole around but I sent a Builder ship to it to build a torist thing. And all the build options for the constructor are not available.

Seems I can't do much of anything anymore at this point. Drop my mainance and my tax revenue drops with it keeping me in the red. Can't build toriest things to help.

I have 5 colonise that are bringing in 0 tax dollars even though I have them set to 10%. My home world has went from 98K down to 35 K. WTF is going on!!

AI will eventually sort it, but at the expense of expansion time (i.e. time for your empire to grow in terms of colonies, ships etc) so you might find you are lagging behind other empires by the time you're economy has stabilised.

Is the problem related to too high expenditure or too low revenues?

My experience is that your home world (perhaps all your starting colonies depending if you start with more than 1) will never get any goods from anywhere. So if you colonize fast those new colonies seem to get a steady supply of goods and will eventually start to make profit which will put you on the green. The problem is that your starting colony(ies) will never recover cause no freighters will never bring them goods.

This will be fixed though.

I had the same problem. Was 100k plus in the red. Took it off auto pilot. Did some of the things Erik suggested and GAVE IT TIME-and walla, now I am 800k in the Green. I don't think the Economy is as screwed up as it may seem. But there maybe some problems with the resources that their working on in the next patch. Econ model is great-love it.[;)]

We've been testing the update this morning since about 7:30Am and I think it's looking good enough to release as a public beta earlier rather than later.  For those of you with economic issues, please note that this will fix them, but it's not an "instant fix" you need to patch and then let the game run and the economy will sort itself out shortly.
In hindsight, I'm amazed the economic issue got through to release, I think for my part I was experience enough with the economy that I hardly noticed the effects (even though they are huge for many players), but I want to apologize that it got through our testing.  The crashes have often been specific enough to a certain situation or system configuration that I'm not surprised we didn't catch them all, but I'm glad for your help submitting save files, which has made it possible to find and fix them quickly.  I hope you all enjoy the update, I'll post when it's up as a public beta.

I should add a somewhat embarrassed note that since a lot of the late balance testing was probably done with that economic issue in place, don't be surprised if we make some more economic tweaks down the line.  I think you'll find that compared to what you were dealing with, the economy is now a lot easier.  If it's too easy for you, don't forget that you can adjust the galaxy setup to make things a bit more challenging for you.
