Escorts don't fly with raid..bug?

Okay, I know I assigned my escorts because in the "action report" it says I did assign them to the raid (197 escorts).
Yet when I viewed replay no escorts showed up and the German fighters had a field day with my unescort bombers (bombing raid to Kiel).
Is this a bug?

WAD
clouds can delay or stop the formup of escorting groups
therefor use delayed escorts, this will minimize the risk.

Hi Swift.
I did use delayed escorts. I suspect it was a bug as I had some 6 groups at different times, some from differnt airfields no bother to make the strike.
Now I could be wrong, but I stagger my escorts pretty well.

Having delayed escorts won't necessarily help if the delayed escorts are due to takeoff when there is overhead cloud cover. Remember that cloud cover is dynamic, it moves across the map throughout the day.

13% cloud cover. I've run the turn 3 times and not once are the clouds over England at take-off time.
5 different bases have VIII Air Force Escorts. At a 13% chance of not taking off that means there is a .003% chance of all 5 bases being socked in.
Now, am I missing something here? Is there more to the calculation or did my opponent hit the jackpot and slaughter my bombers on the cheap because of that three-thousandths of one percent?
I'm just very frustrated at this point.

Here we see the "doomed" strike in question, comprised entirely of bombers for no apparent reason. The strike is but 3 minutes out of it's take-off.
Not a cloud in the sky.
Again, am I missing something here?

replays do not record cloud.
The data requirement to store and record cloud patterns is massive - the savegame saves the current cloud state in around 50kb, if we saved the state for every minute of every game day (1440mins) we'd need 72mb, and that wouldn't allow for overruns like BC getting back after 04:30 the next day.
FWIW - if you use "alt - prntscrn" you just get the active window. That's if you're not using a third party grabber...

There were clouds, over the coast, earlier raids were OK because they flew under them I think, and the second raid seemed to form up over a gap, but had no escorts either.
The first one had I think Spitfires but they turned home well before target area.

Very good. Thanks.
