Suggestion on race setup

Not sure if this is a real issue, or wish so did not put in that thread. Won't be offended if it gets moved! I've started up a handful of games with 700 stars and the full 19 races. I did do one game with 11 and had same thing happen. It seems to me I get "repeat" races an awful lot. For example in last game I had discovered 5 other races and 3 of them were Human. I know I don't have a full statistical sample yet, but there does seem to be a scew towards repeats over new races. I do have it set so indep. can become empires, not sure if that is what is happening. If it is, then they are forming empires real fast. Oh and by the way this game is awesome, a new great space 4x game.

Check size of their empires, if they span 1-3 worlds, they're probably inds that became empires. If they're much larger, they're probably one of your 'opponent empires' you started with. On my first game I discovered 3 humans before I discovered first 'non-human' empire, all those humans were independents :)

During game setup the last step is where you select manually how many races you want, there is an option there that also allows you to select the races. Minor races however may be the same species as you but that gives you a Bonus.

No, if you choose random you do tend to get repeats of some, with some not present at all. You're probably better off to set it manually. The good news is that it seems to retain your settings from session to session, so you need set it once, then change the race of your empire and the one that would be double (if you play as a different race each game).

The game tries to fill out the random empires with different races. However, you also often have independent worlds of your race near your home world. If you have the option on where independent worlds can evolve into their own empires, that may explain why you are seeing so many of the same race too.
