Today, Comrade Stalin decorated General Malinovskii with the Hero of the Soviet Union for cleaning up a pocket of Fascists just east of Rostov. Almost 90,000 troops fell into soviet hands. The prisoners will be re-educated in lead mines in the far east of Siberia, after having taken the obligatory 'humiliation parade' through the streets of Rostov. Though the trains are needed to bring troops to the front, they are being used to ensure that no German prisoners taint their soviet captors. Although considering to tell Uncle Joe that his army was short of everything from Borschte to vodka to spare parts, Comrade General Malinovskii decided that his family would be better served if he kept his mouth shut.
To the southwest of Moscow a Panzer Korps was taken by troops led by General Vatutin. Though this corps had to be chased and attacked for three consecutive weeks, it was not to be let go. Comrade Stalin said he wanted a PzKw IVe to decorate the lawn of his dacha. Orders are orders...ask the Germans.
In the far north, and central south areas, little of consequence occured due to poor rail facilities.
The Battle for Moscow still rages with one Great (minor) victory for soviet arms. Comrade Stalin has told General Vatutin that he'll get his tinsel star with red ribbon when the fascist invaders have been pushed back as far as Mogilev...which had better be next week...or he'll get something entirely different!
The head editor of TASS, hearing of Malinovskii's and Vatutin's victories, wrote Comrade STalin asking for totals of killed, wounded, and missing for both sides, believing that seeing the totals would motivate the proletariat to greater aims. In reply, a letter from Leverenti Beria stated that no records prior to today have been kept, and will be created once the Fascists have surrendered in Berlin.
